Wayne, Neb. – The University of Mary volleyball team headed down to Nebraska to take on Wayne State College tonight. UMary played hard, performing well on the defensive end recording 48 digs on the match which was one more than WSC would post. Though the defense performed well, the Marauders struggled to get anything going against the Wildcats falling in three straight sets (25-12, 25-11, 25-12).
With the loss the Marauders fell to 3-20 on the season and 0-15 in NSIC play.
Wayne State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first set and never looked back from there. The Marauders attempted to make a run late in the set but it was too little too late and the Marauders fell 25-12.
UMary jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in set number two. The Wildcats then turned things on, stringing together eight straight points as part of a 19-5 run to take down the Marauders 25-11 in set two.
The Marauders were able to keep things close early in set number three but once again the Wildcats ran off eight straight unanswered points as part of a 13-3 run to put the match out of reach for UMary. Wayne State would clinch set number three by a score of 25-12 to win the match.
Morgan Schnabel led all Marauders with nine kills, she also posted nine digs during the match.
Katja Berge added six kills and
Madison Bergthold pitched in another five while posting a team high .250 hitting percentage.
Natalia Cruz posted a team high of 12 digs and
Brittany Brusven added a team high of 11 assists.
The Marauders continue their road trip against Augustana. The match will take place tomorrow, October 20 at 5 pm.
