Big blocks by Berge and Harms can't propel Marauders past Augustana

Sioux Falls, SD – The University of Mary volleyball team headed to Sioux Falls to take on Augustana today. The Marauders came into the match against the 9-14 Vikings looking to claim their first win in conference play. UMary battled hard, playing great on the defensive side but they could not take down Augie. The Marauders fell in three sets (25-19, 25-14, 25-9).
 
With the loss the Marauders fall to 3-21 on the season and 0-16 in NSIC play. Augie improves to 10-14 and 5-11 in the NSIC.
 
Augustana jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set but the Marauders were not about to let the Vikings run away with the set. The Marauders battled back to bring the match within two late in the set, only trailing 19-17. Augie would then go on a 6-2 run to close out the set and win 25-19.
 
The Marauders battled hard in set number two but they could not stop the momentum of the Vikings who jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Augustana would clinch the set by a score of 25-14.
 
UMary was able to keep things close early on in set number three. Augie, with momentum on their side was able to string together nine straight points as part of 17-3 run to clinch the set by a score of 25-9 to win the match.
 
The Marauders had tremendous games by several athletes. Morgan Schnabel led all Marauders with ten kills.
 
Sophomore Katja Berge had a big game posting nine kills to go along with her four blocks.
 
Natalia Cruz set a game high with 14 digs on the match.
 
Bailey Harms continues to be a nightmare for opposing hitters. Harms posted a game high of five blocks against Augie.
 
The Marauders return home for their final home matches of the season next weekend. The will begin their home stand against Minnesota Crookston on Friday, October 26 at 6 pm. They will follow that up with a match against Bemidji State on Saturday, October 27 at 11 am.
