ABERDEEN, SD – University of Mary sophomore
Jaylan White scored a team-leading 16 points against 13
th ranked and Northern Sun-leading Northern State University. A tightly contested contest much of the first half, a late run before intermission spurred the Wolves to a 71-57 win over the visiting Marauders.
In an exciting opening half that featured six lead changes and eight ties, the Marauders took a 24-22 lead on a pair of White free throws. Suddenly unable to contain Northern State, the Wolves closed the opening half with a 13-4 run to claim a 35-28 advantage at intermission.
Twice the Marauders pulled within five against the Wolves, the first time on a
Trevor Zacher 3-pointer and the second at 43-38 when
Matthew Kreklow hit a jumper off a feed from
Keith Hunter. Refusing to let the Marauders within striking distance, the Wolves went on a 14-3 run to claim a 57-41 advantage halfway through the second half and maintained a double digit lead the rest of the night.
Perfect at the free throw line in eight attempts, White was 4-of-5 from the floor. His team-leading 16 points was just one point off his career-best. Additionally White refused to commit a turnover against the rugged Wolves defense.
Zacher added 11 points for the Marauders, making all four of his free throw attempts. The senior forward also tied Kreklow for the team lead in rebounds with seven.
Connor Hellebust added seven points and five rebounds off the bench. He also was perfect at the line in four attempts.

Keith Hunter and Kreklow each scored six points for UMary.
Ian Smith led NSU with 21 points and six assists. Darin Peterka hit three treys and scored 18 points.

The Marauders held a 33-30 edge in rebounds but the Wolves outscored UMary 40-24 in the paint and 16-2 off a 15-9 edge in turnovers.
