Sharkey, Hunter pack the punch in the Marauders 75-66 loss to #21 Wolves

BISMARCK, ND – Guards Keith Hunter and Brody Sharkey paced the University of Mary men's basketball team's efforts in a tough 75-66 loss to #21 Northern State University. New to the Marauders this season, the backcourt duo scored 16 points each.
 
Sharkey came off the bench to tie Hunter for the team lead in points. He hit 5-of-8 shots from the floor and went 5-of-8 at the line. The Glendale, AZ, native also added five rebounds and two steals.
 
Fresh off a 30 point game against MSU Moorhead to open the weekend, Hunter was 3-for-7 behind the arc, hauled down six rebounds and delivered three assists.
 
Trevor Zacher added nine points for the Marauders. Matthew Kreklow added eight points and Tom Kubank seven points and six rebounds.
 
Gabe King led Northern State with a game-high 18 points. DJ Pollard posted 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.
 


UMary (2-5 overall, 0-3 NSIC) hit just 41.8 percent of its shots on the night, including only 6-of-17 behind the arc. NSU (8-1, 2-0) made half its shots in each half and was 11-of-27 on trey attempts. The Wolves held a 36-25 advantage in rebounding. UMary used turnovers to stay in the game and outscored the Wolves 18-0 on points off turnovers.
 
After briefly holding a 6-1 lead, UMary trailed the remainder of the game. The Wolves used a 17-2 run in the opening half to build a ten point lead and pulled in front by as many as 14 points before settling for a 41-30 advantage over the Marauders at intermission.
 
Trailing by as many as 17 points, the Marauders clawed within 73-66 on a Zacher jumper and a trey from Hunter on consecutive possessions. UMary forced a turnover but couldn't take advantage, missing its last two shots of the game.
 
The Marauders next visit Wayne State College and Augustana on Dec. 8-9 before returning home to face Minot State University on Dec. 19.
