BISMARCK, ND – Able to score seemingly at will both inside and out, the University of Mary men's basketball team overwhelmed Yellowstone Christian College 92-55. Led by
Trevor Zacher and
Tom Kubank with a dozen points each, the Marauders opened both halves with big runs to secure a win in their final non-conference game of the season.
Zacher hit all five of his shots from the floor, including a pair behind the arc. The senior forward also added four rebounds and two assists.
Kubank made 6-of-8 shots from the floor, including a handful of dunks. The junior forward chipped in two steals.
Matthew Kreklow registered his first career double double as the freshman paired 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Keith Hunter scored 11 points to give the Marauders four players in double figures.
The Marauders put on a high-flying show for the fans right from tip off as Zacher, Kreklow and Kubank combined to score the first 15 points of the game. Highlighting the opening run was back-to-back dunks by Kubank. UMary eventually grew the lead to as many as 26 points before entering intermission with a 43-18 advantage.
The start of the second half closely resembled the opening moments of the game. Zacher sandwiched a pair of 3-pointers around a dunk.
Jaylan White and Zacher both added baskets before Kubank closed out a 16-2 run with two more dunks.
All 12 Marauders scored in the game.
Levi Clagett came off the bench to hit three 3-pointers and score nine points. White made all three of his shots in the game to contribute six points. The sophomore led the team with eight assists and three steals.
Connor Hellebust chipped in seven points and
Evan Anderson,
Wyatt Carr and
Lucas Mayer all scored six points.
Ben Bighorn led the Centurions with 15 points, making 3-of-5 treys. Fabricio Valdivia and Joseph Hooker both had 14. Hooker also snared nine rebounds.
The Marauders shot a scintillating 57.1 percent from the floor, including a 12-of-25 effort behind the arc. UMary held a 40-33 rebounding advantage.
UMary returns to Northern Sun action on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1-2, when MSU Moorhead and Northern State University visit.
