ON THE LINE
Both the Marauders and the Golden Eagles are searching for the first win of the season. For one of these two teams, the search will cease on Saturday. The Marauders last win came in week seven last year at UMC. The Golden Eagles last win was a 45-14 thrashing of Minot State at home on Nov. 7, 2015.

THE BACKSTORY
In the history of the Marauders football program, Mary has played Minnesota Crookston more times - 15 - than any other team on this year's schedule except Minot State University (26). In addition to playing the Golden Eagles for the 12th straight year on Saturday, Mary also faced UMC four times in the 1990s when the both schools were members of the North Dakota College Athletic Conference (UMC was the lone member not located in ND). This is the 12th straight season the Marauders have played the Golden Eagles, one of five teams Mary has faced every season since beginning NCAA play in 2006.

FIVE + 1 NUMBERS TO KNOW
205.2 The Marauders are fourth in the Northern Sun in rushing offense with 205.2 yards per game, despite already facing three of the top four run defenses in the conference (Sioux Falls, Minnesota State, Bemidji State).

82 Bailey Meyer blasted a punt 82 yards against Bemidji State University, just missing the school record of 85 yards by Wes Harens in 1997 vs. Carroll College. For the day the sophomore averaged 46.8 yards/punt on eight attempts.

72 DeShawn Gay's longest long just got longer. The freshman slotback scored on a 72 yard touchdown pass from Garrett Weissinger against Bemidji State. It surpasses his 59 yard touchdown run at Wayne State as his longest play from scrimmage. It was his third TD of the year.

30 This is the 30th season of Marauders football. After playing a junior varsity schedule in 1987, head coach Jim Driscoll led the 1988 squad to a 27-18 home win in the program's first varsity game. UMary honored the members of the 1988 team - known as The Originals - during the Minot State game.

3 Senior captain and defensive back Brady Zittleman broke up a career-best three passes against Bemidji State.

2.5 Senior captain and defensive tackle Brock Pittsley had a career-best 2.5 sacks against Bemidji State. He now has a career-high 3.0 sacks this season, tied for 7th in the NSIC.

HALL OF FAME
Among the six new members of the Marauders Hall of Fame to be inducted this weekend is former UMary football player Nikia Parson, '02. An All-American and a three-time All-Conference selection, Parson was a dominant defensive force on three playoff and two conference championship University of Mary football teams, including the 1999 national semifinalist squad. Parson, who grew up in Gary, IN, and graduated from William Wirt High School, transferred to the University of Mary from Mendocino Community College and quickly stepped into the lineup on the defensive line in 1999. The sophomore posted six sacks and recovered a pair of fumbles to earn All-North Dakota College Athletic Conference second team honors and help lead the Marauders to a record of 11-2 and a North Dakota College Athletic Conference title while advancing to the NAIA semifinals. Parson wreaked havoc in opposing backfields his junior season in 2000, posting 13 sacks, the third-highest single season total in school history. He earned Don Hansen honorable mention All-American honors and Dakota Athletic Conference all-league first team recognition as Mary once again made the national playoffs. Parson closed his career on a high note, earning NAIA first team and Don Hansen honorable mention All-American honors. He was a team captain and a repeat DAC-10 first team selection his senior year in 2001 as Mary finished the regular season undefeated (9-0), won the school's first DAC-10 title, and advanced to the NAIA playoffs once again.

HEAD COACHES
Josh Kotelnicki is in his fourth season as the head coach of the University of Mary. He is just the fifth varsity head coach in school history as the team begins its 30th season. Kotelnicki directed the Marauders to a 5-6 record in his first season in 2014 and is 7-34 lifetime (four years). Kotelnicki joined Mary after serving as the associate head coach at NCAA FCS University of North Dakota for two seasons (2012-13) and as UND's defensive coordinator in 2013. A native of Litchfield, Minn., Kotelnicki won an NCAA Division II title as a player at North Dakota and has been on winning teams as a coach at the NCAA FBS, FCS, and Division II levels. After starting his coaching career at UND, he has also worked at Murray State, Truman State, and NCAA FBS Kansas State before returning to UND... A longtime member of the Minnesota Crookston coaching staff, Mark Dufner was named the Golden Eagles head coach during the off season and is in his 15th year overall with the program. The last five years he was the UMC defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. A Maddock, ND, native, Dufner player college football for Valley City State, his alma mater, and was a high school coach in Valley City for 10 years before joining the Golden Eagles staff.
