MANKATO, MN – In search of her second straight double double,
Gabbie Bohl fell a rebound shy on a night the University of Mary was overwhelmed on the boards in a 77-52 loss at Minnesota State University. The Mavericks outrebounded the Marauders by 28, leading to a 30-8 edge in second chance points.
After posting 16 points and 11 rebounds the day before at Concordia-St. Paul, Bohl followed up with another strong night against the Mavericks. The redshirt freshman post player from Minot, ND, led the Marauders with 13 points. She hit half her eight field goal attempts and went 5-of-6 free throws and didn't commit a turnover in the game.
Lauren Rotunda finished with 11 points, the only other Mary player in double figures.
Hannah Larson just missed with nine points.
Turnovers were devastating for the Marauders in the first quarter. Mary (9-11 overall, 4-8 Northern Sun) turned the ball over nine times, allowing Minnesota State (9-7, 5-7) to have a 10-0 edge in points off turnovers to take a 19-9 lead.
The Marauders shooting touched failed in the second quarter as Mary hit just 2-of-13 field goals, including missing all seven 3-point attempts. At half Minnesota State held a commanding 40-16 lead.
Neither team shot very well. Mary finished at 30.9 percent for the game and MSU connected on 35.4 percent of its field goal attempts. However, between a 62-34 rebounding edge and a 14-22 edge in turnovers, the Mavericks took 27 more shots in the game than the Marauders. MSU had 32 offensive rebounds to ten for Mary.
After playing five of seven games on the road, the Marauders return home to host Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22.
