Kearney, Neb. - After a rough day one, the University of Mary bounced back with a win and a loss at day two of the New Victorian Inn & Suites/Runza Classic.

The Marauders beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 27-25, and 25-19) in the first match of the day but lost to Black Hills State 3-2 (26-19, 21-25, 28-26, 22-25 and 12-15) in the final match.

In the first match against the Rangers (0-8), the Marauders (5-4) led 19-15 but NWOSU took the 21-20 lead after an attack error by
Lauren Randall. The junior outside hitter finished with 17 kills and 17 digs for the match.

UMary was unable to get the lead back and lost the first set 25-21 after a game winning kill by Natalie Fahey.

The Marauders bounced back and never trailed in the second set. Randall recorded six of her 17 kills in the set to help the Marauders tie the match at 1-1.

In the third set the Marauders fell behind 8-3 but took back the 17-15 lead after a
Thayna Silva kill. The senior finished with 14 kills and eight digs.

The blue and orange trailed 23-21 late in the set but
Rachel Astrup started the UMary rally with her second kill of the set. After that the Marauders hung tough and won the set 27-25 after a Ranger attacking error. Astrup finished with a hitting percentage of .519 for the match while recording 15 kills.

The Marauders used that late comeback to start to the fourth set off on the right foot. Leading 5-0 after a
Anna Nietfeld kill, UMary never fell behind in the set.

UMary finished with a .233 hitting percentage and handed NWOSU its eighth straight loss.

The first match victory didn't carry over into the Marauders second match of the day.

BHSU and UMary split the first four sets and in the fifth set it was all square at 6-6 after a Silva kill for the Marauders. But the Yellow Jackets benefitted from a few Marauder attacking errors to pull ahead 10-7 in the final set.

Silva used one of her 12 match kills to tie the competition at 11-11 and a
Freddie Campbell kill gave UMary the 12-11 lead.

However, the Yellow Jackets (2-5) scored the next four points off a Cheyenne Palu kill and three Marauder attacking errors to claim its second win of the season.

Randall finished with 21 kills and 28 digs while Campbell chipped in 15 kills for the Marauders.

Up next for UMary will be its first Northern Sun conference match at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 against Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D.
