At The Plate: The University of Mary Softball team will make their first official road trip of the regular season as they pay a visit to Bemidji State University on Tuesday, March 29 at 2 PM, before heading south to take on the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, April 2 at 1 PM, and will wrap up the weekend against Southwest Minnesota State University on Sunday, April 3 at 12 PM.
For The Record: U-Mary hosted Wayne State College and Augustana last week for the NSIC opener and dropped a trio of games before the weather moved in to put their record at 6-16, 0-3 NSIC. The Beavers took their lone contest against No. 15 Winona State University before dropping both halves of the doubleheader to Upper Iowa University for an 18-8, 1-2 NSIC record. The Cougars swept each doubleheader last week against SMSU, Northern State University, and Minnesota State University Moorhead for eight wins in their last nine games and a 22-7, 6-0 NSIC mark. The Mustangs swept MSU Moorhead after dropping the games to the Cougars, but were swept by Northern State for a 6-17, 2-4 NSIC record on the year so far.
In The Past: The Marauders swept Bemidji State in 2015 with a 3-2, 7-3 score to improve their record to 21-1 all-time against the Beavers.
Taylor Mendez finished 2-for-2 with a single, double and three RBI in the first game, and Mendez and
Alana Norman both earned two hits in the second game to lead the offense. U-Mary couldn't carry the same momentum into the games against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State, but still managed to earn a split in both doubleheaders to put their record at 3-3 all-time against the Cougars and 8-11 all-time against the Mustangs. Mendez had a three-run shot in the win against Sioux Falls while adding a single, double, and another home run in the win against the Mustangs, while
Alana Norman finished with two hits, three runs, and a stolen base.
Last One Up: U-Mary opened up the conference schedule at home after postponing the doubleheader against Minot State to a later date and instead hosted Wayne State to begin Northern Sun play. The Marauders fell behind early to the Wildcats and couldn't catch up in the end as they committed seven errors combined and eventually lost the first game 6-2 before dropping the second game 3-2. Norman recorded two hits in the first game and added two more in the second to lead the offense. Unfortunately, the errors continued to pile up against Augustana as both teams committed four in the lone contest and despite U-Mary owning an early 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run shot from Mendez, the Marauders ended up losing 14-3 as the snow settled in late in the game, forcing a cancellation of game two.
On Deck: The Marauders will return home next week as they will host MSU Moorhead on Wednesday, April 6 at 2 PM, to start the week off. U-Mary will follow up with a pair of home contests against Upper Iowa University on Saturday, April 9 at 1 PM, and will wrap up the weekend with a doubleheader against Winona State University on Sunday, April 10 at 12 PM.
