CROOKSTON, MINN. - The University of Mary dropped its seventh Northern Sun match to Minnesota Crookston 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 14-25 and 17-25) Friday, Oct. 14.

Senior outside hitter
Thayna Silva led the way for the Marauders (8-11, 3-7 NSIC) with 10 kills.
Rachel Astrup and
Elizabeth Garcia added nine and eight kills for Mary.

Defensively,sophomore
Geovana Almeida finished with 23 digs and junior
Lauren Randall added 17 for the Marauders.

The Golden Eagles (7-11, 3-7 NSIC) outhit the Marauders .208 to .086 in the four sets.

In the first set the Marauders jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after an Astrup kill. Mary extended that lead to 14-9 on the home team but three straight points by UMC and the Golden Eagles trailed 14-12.

Mary held its lead late into the set and won the set 25-21 off a UMC service error.

The second set started back-and-forth for both teams as the NSIC opponents changed leads. But Mary scored four straight points including three kills from Randall and took a 8-5 lead. Mary led 16-10 but UMC started its late comeback outscoring the Marauders 6-2 in that stretch, however, the Marauders still held a 18-16 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored the final four points of the set to secure the 26-24 set win after a Kassi Green kill. The redshirt junior finished with 14 kills for UMC.

The third set was all UMC as the Marauders sored just 14 points in the set. Mary trailed 9-7 but the Golden Eagles outscored the Blue & Orange 16-7 the rest of way to take the set victory and pull ahead 2-1 in the match.

In the final set the Marauders tried to climb out of the 2-1 hole but UMC held a late 15-7 lead and that was good enough to leave Mary in the dust as the Golden Eagles took the set 25-17.

Mary will play another NSIC opponent in Bemidji State on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Bemidji, Minn.
