At The Plate: The Marauders were going to play a makeup game today against Minot State University, but that has been pushed back again due to weather concerns. Instead, U-Mary will make a day trip to Minnesota State University Moorhead on Thursday, April 9, before going on their long road trip to Winona State University and Upper Iowa University. The Marauders will take on the Warriors on Saturday, April 11, before taking on the Peacocks on Sunday, April 12.
For The Record: U-Mary (16-21, 5-6 NSIC) swept Bemidji State University earlier last week but had a couple rough outings against Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls. The Marauders took the first game against the Mustangs but dropped the second game and fell to the Cougars in the first game of the doubleheader but bounced back in the second. MSU Moorhead (11-13, 1-9 NSIC) split their series against the University of Minnesota Duluth, but was swept by Wayne State College and Augustana College. Winona State (28-7, 10-0 NSIC) is sitting on a 10-game winning streak as they swept Wayne State, Minnesota Duluth, and St. Cloud State University in the previous week. Upper Iowa (11-20, 6-4 NSIC) fell twice to Augustana but rebounded by sweeping St. Cloud State and wrapped up the weekend with a split against Minnesota Duluth.
In The Past: The Marauders have won the last 11 games against MSU Moorhead and the all-time record sits at 12-10 in favor of the U-Mary. Winona State owns an 18-3 record all-time over U-Mary as the Warriors won both regular season games before splitting the matches in the conference tournament. Rounding out the weekend, U-Mary has a 9-7 record over the Peacocks with the series being split last year.
Last One Up: U-Mary started the week off on the right foot with two wins over Bemidji State, 3-2 and 7-3, as the Marauders totaled 22 hits over the course of both games.
Nena Dudley went for the complete game in the first contest and
Erin Keen earned the victory in the second with
Alana Norman and
Taylor Mendez both getting multiple hits in both games. The Mustangs proved resilient enough to get the split with U-Mary as the Marauders won the first game, 9-5, but fell in the second to the long ball, 16-9. Finishing out the weekend,
Kristin Ormsby provided the offensive spark agaisnt Sioux Falls depite U-Mary dropping the first game 5-3, but rebounded with a statement 11-3 win over the Cougars in the second game. Mendez's amazing week got her recognition from the Northern Sun as she was named the NSIC Player of the Week after batting .667 with five doubles, two home runs, and driving in a league high 13 runs over the week.
On Deck: The Marauders will kick off their senior weekend, first by hosting Northern State University on Tuesday, April 14, with Minnesota State University paying a visit on Saturday, April 18 for the Breat Cancer Awareness game, and Senior Day will be against Concordia University St. Paul on Sunday, April 19.
