Marauders Wrap Up Regular Season with Games Against Crookston, Duluth, St. Cloud

At The Plate: The University of Mary Softball team will finish out the regular season this week, starting with a home doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, April 22. Then the Marauders will head out on the road on Saturday, April 25, to take on the University of Minnesota Duluth, followed by the final doubleheader of the season against St. Cloud State University on Sunday, April 26.

For The Record: U-Mary (22-27, 11-12 NSIC) lost to Northern State University in the first game of what was supposed to be a doubleheader, but the second game was cancelled due to an impending fire hazard. Then the Marauders fell to Minot State University in a makeup game, 6-0, as the wind made it difficult for U-Mary to get the offense going. Rounding out the weekend, the Marauders split with Minnesota State University on Saturday for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, before sweeping Concordia University-St. Paul on Senior Day. The Golden Eagles (4-38, 0-24 NSIC) were swept by Minnesota Duluth, Southwest Minnesota State University, and the University of Sioux Falls last week. The Bulldogs (27-20, 11-13 NSIC) swept Minnesota Crookston before splitting with Augustana College and getting swept by Wayne State College. The Huskies (24-24, 10-14 NSIC) split with Bemidji State University and Wayne State before dropping both games of the doublehader to Augustana.

In The Past: The Marauders are one a five-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles after sweeping last year's doubleheader at home, U-Mary is 13-1 all-time against Minnesota Crookston. The Marauders are 5-18 all-time against Minnesota Duluth after splitting last year's doublehader at home, and are 13-8 against the Huskies after again spitting the doubleheader last year in Bismarck.

Last One Up: U-Mary started the week of on a rough patch after the wind and an encroaching brush fire forced the cancellation of the second game against Northern State. The Marauders were down 2-0 through the seventh inning and were able to get a run across in their last at bat, but the rally was cut short and they came away with a 2-1 loss. U-Mary was also down 3-0 in the second game before the brush fire forced the evacuation of campus. Then the Marauders took on Minot State in a makeup game from three weeks prior, but U-Mary's offense struggled to get anything going as they fell 6-0 to the Beavers. The Marauders then took on Minnesota State for Breast Cancer Awareness Day and the Marauders utilized solid pitching to get the 2-1 win in the first game but the Mavericks opened up the offense in the second game for the 9-3 victory. Finishing out the weekend, U-Mary jumped on Concordia-St. Paul early in the first game with 10 runs through two innings to secure a 10-1 victory in five innings before fighting back from a 10-3 deficit in the second game to win 17-13 for the Senior Day Sweep.

On Deck: The Marauders are finished with the regular season and will have the conference tournament next week. As it stands, U-Mary is ninth in the standings and need to finish at least 10th to make the tournament.
