Box Score 2 CROOKSTON, Minnesota –
McKeon Meyhoff handcuffed the opposing hitters and
Mason Schiff pounded out a key double to deliver a split for the visiting University of Mary at the University of Minnesota Crookston. The Marauders won the opener 5-3 before the Golden Eagles rebounded for a 5-2 victory in game two of the Northern Sun doubleheader.
Meyhoff picked up his first win of the season while tossing his third complete game. The junior lefthander allowed just two earned runs on six hits and two walks in seven innings. He also struck out five.
Down two after the Golden Eagles scored solo runs in each of the first two innings, the Marauders exploded for four runs in the fourth to take control of the game.
Schiff opened the scoring with a two-run double to tie the game. An RBI single from
Tom Imholte drove in
Cory Dixon and an error allowed Schiff to score the fourth run of the inning.
The Golden Eagles closed within 4-3 in the fifth on an unearned run but Mary would regain its two run lead on an RBI single to center by
Trenten Hove that scored Schiff.
Schiff finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs driven in and an RBI. Dixon was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and
Clay Bassingthwaite was 1-for-2.
Thomas Kinsella finished the game 2-for-4.
The two teams swapped roles in the second game. The Marauders opened the scoring in the nightcap on a
Sean Hennen on a sacrifice fly.
Following single Golden Eagle runs in each of the first and second, the Marauders tied the game on a UMC error the third.
A single by Colton Haight in the fifth broke the tie and gave the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead. UMC put the game away with two more runs in the eighth.
Seth Meide finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored. Imholte finished 2-for-3 with an idea.
Haight finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Kinsella posted two hits and two runs.
Freshman
Jake Johnson provided a string start for the Marauders. He threw six innings and allowed two earned runs, three walks and six hits while striking out five.
Jarad Nelson earned the win for UMC, limiting Mary to four hits, one earned run and a walk while striking out five. Nolan Wahlberg earned the win by tossing a scoreless ninth.
The two teams conclude a four-game weekend on Saturday.
