At The Plate: The University of Mary Softball team will kick off a nine-game homestand over the next week, starting with Northern State University on Tuesday, April 14, followed up with a make-up game against Minot State University on Wednesday, April 15, and the weekend games will feature Minnesota State University on Saturday, April 18, for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and Concordia University-St. Paul on Sunday, April 19, for Senior Day.
For The Record: U-Mary (19-24, 8-9 NSIC) swept Minnesota State University Moorhead on the road, but fell to Upper Iowa University in two games in Fayette before splitting with #22 Winona State University in Winona, Minn. The Wolves (23-16, 10-6 NSIC) defeated Minot State at home in two games before splitting with Minnesota State in Mankato and sweeping Concordia-St. Paul in St. Paul. The Beavers (24-16, 5-12 NSIC) had it rough last week as they have lost six games in a row after being swept by Northern State, Upper Iowa, and Winona State, all on the road. The Mavericks (28-16, 13-5 NSIC) split with Upper Iowa on the road and Northern State at home, before sweeping MSU Moorhead at home. The Golden Bears (15-26, 9-9 NSIC) were swept by Winona State early last week in Winona, Minn., before defeating MSU Moorhead twice at home and dropping two games to Northern State at home over the weekend.
In The Past: The Marauders are 19-3 all-time against Northern State, with U-mary sweeping the Wolves last year in Aberdeen. The Beavers won the first contest, 15-2, and the Marauders are still trying to makeup the second game of the originally scheduled doubleheader. The Mavericks are even with the Marauders at 4-4 all-time between the teams, with a split coming last year in Mankato. Finally, U-Mary improved to 9-13 all-time against the Golden Bears after winning four games last year over Concordia-St. Paul, first with the regular season sweep in St. Paul and following that up with two wins in the conference tournament.
Last One Up: U-Mary started the week on the high note with a doubleheader sweep over MSU Moorhead, first with a 5-1 victory that was a complete team effort as the Marauders utilized all their pitching to get the win. They followed the first game up with a 4-3 win in the second where
Erin Keen was credited with the save. Unfortunately, the Marauders dropped the next two to Upper Iowa as the long ball proved to be the difference maker for the Peacocks with a 5-2 and 11-5 victory over U-Mary. Rounding out the weekend, the Marauders were held to two hits in the first game against #22 Winona State as they fell 8-0, but responded with a 3-2 victory in the second game as
MeLanie Rodriguez earned the complete game for U-Mary.
On Deck: The Marauders will have their last home series of the regular season when they host the University of Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, April 22, before going on the road to the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, April 25, and finishing out the conference schedule with a series against St. Cloud State University on Sunday, April 26.
