Marauders Baseball Trades Tundra for Desert with Spring Break Trip to Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Leaving the frozen tundra for the desert, the University of Mary baseball team will spend their spring break playing ten games in Tucson, Ariz. The week will feature some new opponents along with one old face.

The week begins with a doubleheader against Malone University on Saturday, Feb. 28. Playing their first games of the season in Tucson, the Pioneers will soon become a familiar face. The Marauders and the Pioneers will play three varsity games and two junior varsity contests. Malone is an NCAA Division II program who plays in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Other fresh faces to the Marauders are NAIA members College of Idaho, Indiana Wesleyan, Grace College and Northwestern College, plus NCAA Division III member Cornell College. U-Mary will play each of those five once each.

U-Mary also face off against fellow Northern Sun foe Northern State University. The two squads play two varsity games and a JV contest.

The Marauders and the Wolves are scheduled to play each other as many times in Tucson as they are scheduled to play in the regular season. And despite the close proximity of the two school, U-Mary and NSU have played just two times in each of the last three seasons.

This is the second trip south for the Marauders this season. U-Mary opened its schedule last weekend with a four-game set at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Despite solid efforts by the starting pitchers, an inexperienced Marauders squad was swept by the regionally-ranked Rattlers.
