CLERMONT, Fla. - Making their annual trip to Florida for spring break, the University of Mary Softball team is spending the next two weeks in the sunshine state as they continue their 2015 regular season.
Â
The Marauders (2-4) look to build some momentum as they had a marginally successful trip to Las Vegas about two weeks ago. U-Mary earned two hard fought victories over Lubbock Christian University and the University of Texas-Permian Basin, but fell to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Notre Dame de Namur University, Simon Fraser University, and California State University-San Bernardino.
Â
All of the games the Marauders have played in have been close as their losses have been by less than three runs with one-run losses coming against UC-Colorado Springs and Cal State San Bernardino.
Â
U-Mary has brought the power to the plate early in the season as
Julissa Perales has earned a .524 batting average, a 1.000 slugging percentage, and has totaled 11 hits including two doubles, a triple and a home run in the early season. Perales was also the difference makers in the 2-1 win over Lubbock Christian as she drove in both runs en route to the win.
Â
Alana Norman has brought the power as well with a .455 batting average with 10 hits, five runs, and six stolen bases; while
Nena Dudley has emerged as a multi-tool threat with a .400 batting average with eight hits, six runs and four RBI.
Â
Dudley has shown flashes of her brilliance with some stellar pitching while in the circle as she has earned a 2-0 record with 25.1 innings pitches, a 2.49 ERA, 30 strikeouts and a complete game win over Lubbock Christian.
Â
The Marauders will have 20 games while in Florida and will compete against a slew of teams from around the nation. Once the trip is completed, then the conference schedule will roll around for U-Mary.
