Five Marauders Score Double Figures in 98-32 Win over BraveHearts

BISMARCK, N.D. - There was not shortage of scoring today for the University of Mary Women's Basketball team as they took on Oglala Lakota College for the second game of Parent's Weekend.
 
Five players for the Marauders (3-2) recorded double digit points as they powered their way once again to a 98-32 win over the BraveHearts (0-2) for U-Mary's third straight win.
 
The Marauders employed another tough defense against the BraveHearts, opening up the first quarter with a 14-5 run and holding onto the lead at 22-7 to close out the quarter thanks to five different players recording a bucket in the opening frame. U-Mary kept the momentum going in the second quarter after another 14-5 run to begin the period and closed out the half with seven of the last nine points to extend the lead to 43-15 going into the break.
 
U-Mary kept the hot hands going as they opened up the third quarter on a 16-7 run, compounded with seven of the last 10 points for a commanding 66-26 lead heading into the final frame. The BraveHearts recorded the first four points of the fourth quarter, but the Marauders responded with the next 21 to extend the lead out to 87-30 and cruised to a 98-32 final score.
 
Anna Schmelzer led all scorers with 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting, to go with five rebounds and two steals in 19 minutes of action.
 
Brittney Dietz continued her streak of double-digit points to begin the season with 16 on 7-for-10 shooting, to go with six rebounds, two assists and one steal in 16 minutes on the floor.
 
Hayley Niles and Maria Zimdars both provided 12 points each to come off the bench as Niles added eight rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks, while Zimdars recorded 12 rebounds for the first double-double of her career.
 
Sheyenne Williams was the last U-Mary player to record double figures in points with 10 as she added six assists, one steal and one rebound in 25 minutes played.
 
Dani Clarke, Rachel Weir, and Dani Williams came off the bench for U-Mary to notch a combined 26 points, as Clarke grabbed four boards, Weir notched five rebounds and three steals, with Williams rounding out the trio with three rebounds and five assists.
 
The Marauders will spend Thanksgiving in Hawaii as they travel to Honolulu on Thursday, November 26, to compete in the Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic, first with a game against Brigham Young University-Hawaii, starting at 3:00 PM CDT.
