Somerville's Strong Senior Day Showing Unable to Prevent Sweep by Beavers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BISMARCK, N.D. – Playing the final home games of his collegiate career, Derek Somerville collected four hits and drove in three runs for the University of Mary in a pair of losses to Minot State University. The Marauders were edged 6-5 in the opener before slipping 13-4 in the second contest.
 
A senior from Minot, N.D., Somerville was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs in the first game for U-Mary. The first baseman concluded Senior Day by ripping three hits in four at bats, posting a double, a walk and an RBI. He has posted career-highs in average, runs scored, RBIs, steals and several other categories in his final season for the Marauders.
 
Down two in the opener, the Marauders (15-29 overall, 6-18 Northern Sun) scored five straight runs to claim a 5-2 lead after five innings. Tied at 2-2, Somerville highlighted a four-run fifth inning with a 2-run double.
 
The Beavers (15-21, 9-13) scored thrice in the sixth to pull even before winning the game in the seventh. Using three walks and a hit batter, Minot State pushed across the winning run without a hit.
 
Jason Shaul went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI for the Marauders. Austin Grundstad scored twice in the game.
 
Nick Hammerl scored two runs and drove in two for MSU. Conner Oliver posted three RBI and scored a run.
 
The Beavers posted four multi-run innings in the second game and scored in six of nine stanzas to roll past the Marauders 13-4. Minot State scored the first eight runs of the contest before the Marauders plated three runs in the fifth.
 
Minot State hit three home runs in the game, including a pair by catcher Conner Moughtin. He finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Moughtin also had a double. A.J. Begay hit the other homer and finished 3-of-6, scoring twice and driving in one run. Sean Arbaut led all players with four hits and four RBI. Oliver added three hits and two RBI.
 
In addition to Somerville, Trenton Hove also had three hits for the Marauders. Grundstad was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Scott Held also had two hits with an RBI.
 
The Marauders close the season with six road games, beginning with a doubleheader at Northern State on April 30.
