Box Score 2 BISMARCK, N.D.—Playing in the final home games of their careers, seniors
Allison Brown and
Cherlyn Trujillo had their Senior Day ruined by the visiting Augustana College Saturday afternoon. The Marauders (30-20, 15-11 NSIC) fell 9-1 in five innings in the opener to the Vikings (40-11, 23-7 NSIC) and dropped their regular season finale 6-0.
U-Mary had just nine hits on the day, with
Julissa Perales and
Alana Norman each going 2-for-5.
GAME 1 Falling behind early in the opener, two errors by the Marauders led to three unearned runs by the Vikings, as U-Mary dropped the opener 9-1 in five innings.
The Marauders had four hits in the game, with Perales delivering the games only run on an RBI single.
The Vikings got on the board in the second inning as a leadoff double and a pair of walks loaded the bases. Augustana followed with a single to score two runs. The Marauders surrendered three more runs in the third inning, all of which were unearned as they fell behind 5-0.
Keyed by a two-run home run, the Vikings added four more runs in the fourth. The Marauders answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as a Perales double scored Norman.
Down by eight, U-Mary recorded a hit in the seventh inning, but was unable to rally as it fell 9-1 in five innings.
Trujillo, who was saddled with the loss, pitched game one and allowed six earned runs, while striking out two.
GAME 2 Again in the second game the Marauders fell behind early and again they were plagued by mistakes. Two errors led to two unearned runs by the Vikings as the Marauders fell 6-0.
U-Mary's five hits came from five different players, as
Amber Gamboa recorded the Marauders only extra base hit with a double in the sixth.
Augustana scored two runs in the second inning off of two doubles and an error by U-Mary to take a 2-0 lead. The Vikings added three runs in the third on five hits and a wild pitch. An error by the Marauders in the fifth inning gave the Vikings their sixth run of the to extend their lead to 6-0.
U-Mary's best chance to score came in the sixth inning as
Kristin Ormsby singled and Gamboa doubled to put runners at second and third. The Marauders next batter grounded out to end the threat as they went on to fall 6-0.
Picking up the loss,
Erin Keen picked up a complete game and allowed four earned runs, while striking out three.
ON DECK U-Mary currently sits in seventh place in the Northern Sun standings. The Marauders will open the NSIC Tournament on May 1 in Sioux Falls, with match-ups yet to be determined.
