SENIOR DAY HIGHLIGHTS FINAL HOME WEEKEND OF SEASONNine University of Mary senior baseball players will take the field on their home diamond for the final time in the orange and blue when the Marauders host the Minot State University Beavers in a four-game weekend set. The Northern Sun series begins with a pair of games on Friday, April 25, at 1:30 p.m. Those nine seniors and parents of all the players will be recognized on Saturday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon. All games will be played at the U-Mary baseball field.
ANTICIPATED RAIN PUSHES BEAVERS SERIES FORWARD TO FRIDAY, SATURDAYDue to the high probability of rain on Sunday, the Marauders and Beavers moved up their series one day to Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26. The series was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27.
THE RECORDS The Marauders are 15-25 overall and 12
th in the Northern Sun with a record of 6-14. The Beavers are 11-21 and 5-13, 13
th in the NSIC.

LAST WEEKThe Marauders are 5-3 over the past week, splitting a pair of Northern Sun home games against Minnesota Duluth, sweeping a non-conference home doubleheader against the University of Winnipeg and sweeping a road non-conference twin bill at Dickinson State University before dropping two NSIC games at the University of Sioux Falls.

HISTORYIn-state rivals U-Mary and Minot State University faced each other last season for the first time since 2006 with the Beavers winning three of four games at home. The Marauders began playing an NCAA and Northern Sun schedule in 2007 and didn't face the Beavers until Minot State joined the NSIC and started playing a conference schedule in 2013… The Marauders are 7-3 against Northern State since joining the NSIC in 2007. The last three seasons the two teams have split a doubleheader. The last time U-Mary has played in Aberdeen, S.D., was in 2006. U-Mary and NSU have played each other at the Metrodome and in Florida since then but not on the Wolves home field… Since 2006 the Marauders are winless in 14 games against St. Cloud State. U-Mary has not played at SCSU since 2010.

CAREER MOVESince making his first career start on April 2, a 9-1 complete game victory at Wayne State College, senior righthander
Sam Salveson is on a tremendous roll. In four starts and seven total appearances covering 30.1 innings during the month of April, the Mandan, N.D., native is 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA and two complete games. He has 13 strikeouts and allowed just 34 hits and 10 walks. Salveson had opened his career with 27 consecutive relief appearances, along with several starts at first base and the outfield.
GUN THE RUNSenior catcher
Sam Ingemansen is one of the top catchers in the Northern Sun in throwing out baserunners. During one recent stretch he eliminated six straight base stealers and 8-of-11. For the season the Bismarck, N.D., native has thrown out an NSIC-high 23 attempted base stealers in 62 attempts.
OUCHU-Mary's most dynamic offensive player is paying the price for producing. Junior left fielder
Jason Shaul leads the NSIC in being hit by the pitch and is 9th in the country in hit by pitch per game. In 40 games he has been hit 16 times. The New Ulm, Minn., native is hitting .417 with a .591 slugging percentage and a .518 on base percentage. He also leads the Marauders with 36 runs scored, 14 doubles, three triples and 28 RBI. During the month of April Shaul is batting .508 with a .741 slugging percentage.
EIGHT STRAIGHTIn his last eight appearances covering eight innings, junior lefty
Travis Famias hasn't allowed a run and has registered two saves. The Bismarck N.D., native has given up just four hits and two walks during the run.
SWIFT AND STRONGSenior 1B/DH
Derek Somerville has displayed both timely hitting and impressive baserunning this season. The Minot, N.D., native is seventh in the Northern Sun with walks and is fifth in steals, swiping 12 bases in 16 attempts. Twice he has two steals in a game. Hitting in the middle of the order, Somerville is batting .326 with a .443 on base percentage. He is second on the team with 26 RBI and has scored 26 times.
DIALING IT INU-Mary's starting shortstop since arriving on campus four years ago,
Alex Deyle is now third in games played during U-Mary's NCAA era (2007 and on). A senior, Deyle has played in 169 games and has started 167 times. He is third in hits (138) and sixth in runs scored (72). One of the top defensive players in the league, the Bismarck native has a .942 fielding percentage.
SHAUL NAMED NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEKA dynamic week at the plate by
Jason Shaul earned the University of Mary left fielder Northern Sun Player of the Week recognition earlier in April. Shaul ripped seven doubles in a six-game span and drove in nine runs to become the Marauders first position player to earn league honors since 2008… A junior from New Ulm, Minn., Shaul hit .600 with a .950 slugging percentage and a .556 on base percentage. He went 12-for-20 with seven doubles, nine RBIs and seven runs scored. Shaul also walked twice, was hit by a pitch and struck out once… A transfer from Ridgewater Community College in his second season at U-Mary, Shaul posted four multi-hit games and had at least one hit in all six games. Twice he posted three hits. In four games against Bemidji State on Sunday and Monday, he finished 9-of-14, scored six times and drove home four with five doubles… While the Marauders have had several pitchers earn league player of the week honors in recent years, the last U-Mary position player to earn NSIC Player of the Week recognition was Mike Feldman on April 14, 2008. Feldman won the honor three times that season and Tyler Liffrig once.
NATION'S BESTThe Marauders opened the season with six straight games against nationally-ranked teams and have had a total of eight games against ranked foes. U-Mary lost all four games at St. Mary's to start the year. Ranked 15th at the time, the Rattlers rose as high as 3rd in the NCBWA. Barry University was ranked 18th when it faced U-Mary and jumped up to 16th. Lynn University was 21st when it faced U-Mary and moved up the polls as high as 13th. The Marauders split a doubleheader against #3 Minnesota State, winning 2-1 and losing 14-2.
WILD WALKOFF WINThe Marauders picked up a split against 3rd ranked Minnesota State University with a wild finish. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh,
Jason Shaul and
Derek Somerville delivered one-out singles. Shaul and pinch-runner
Jeff Aders then pulled off a double steal to both move into scoring position. With two outs,
Sam Ingemansen tapped a ball between the mound and the third base line. Mavericks pitcher Mathias Butula, who recorded 12 strikeouts in the game, picked the ball up and fired it past first base into foul territory down the right field line, allowing both Shaul and Aders to score the tying and winning runs. MSU won the second game 14-2. It was the second straight season the Marauders have split with the nationally-ranked Mavericks.
