Marauders Baseball Rallies Twice for Pair of One-Run Road Wins Over Blue Hawks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DICKINSON, N.D. – Twice forced to fight back from three run deficits, the University of Mary pulled out a pair of one-run non-conference road wins against Dickinson State. The Marauders captured the opener 7-6 and claimed the sweep with a 6-5 game two win.

Down 3-0 in the opening game after Dickinson State posted three first inning runs, a two-run Dwight Mack home run to right field in the second pulled the Marauders within a run. It was his third round-tripper of the season.

Featuring a two-run Scott Held double followed by Derek Somerville's run-scoring single, the Marauders posted five runs in the fourth inning to grab a 7-3 lead.

The Blue Hawks scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before Travis Famias pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his second save of the season.

Held led the Marauders attack in the opener, recording three hits in four at bats. The sophomore from Great Falls, Mont., had a double, drove in two runs and scored once. Jason Shaul was also 3-for-4 and Alex Deyle picked up two of the Marauders 12 hits.

Eric Contreras led DSU with a 3-for-4 effort, scoring twice and hitting a double. Chris Mjelstad added two hits and two RBIs.

In a replay of the opener, Dickinson State again scored a trio of runs in the first inning.

After both teams scored solo runs in each of the third and fourth innings, U-Mary pulled with in 5-3 by plating another single run in the fifth.

Holding onto a two-run lead, the Blue Hawks turned the game over to their closer in the seventh. The plan backfired as Ian Anderson couldn't find the strike zone, walking three and giving up a bunt single to Shaul as the Marauders fought for the win. After Anderson walked Derek Somerville to force in a run, relief pitcher Taylor Kraenzel walked Mack to force in the second run of the inning to pull the teams even. Mason Schiff completed the Marauders comeback with a sacrifice fly to score Shaul with the winning run.

Zach Stecker pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his first collegiate save.

Shaul led the Marauders with another 3-for-4 contest, scoring twice in the game and finishing 6-for-8 in the two games. Mack was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Somerville and Deyle both recorded two hits.

Jordan Tescher keyed the Blue Hawks effort in game two, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Marauders have won four straight non-conference games and are 15-23 overall. DSU is 9-35.

U-Mary jumps back into Northern Sun play with a doubleheader at the University of Sioux Falls on Tuesday, April 23.
