Marauders Baseball Takes Full Advantage of Wesmen Miscues in Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BISMARCK, N.D. – Stepping out of league play for the day, the University of Mary crossed the plate 26 times in sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Winnipeg. The Marauders captured the opener 15-7 before defeating the Wesmen 11-4 in the nightcap.
 
In a messy first game, the two teams combined to commit 10 error – five apiece - and score 16 unearned runs.
 
The homestanding Marauders took immediate advantage of the Wesmen mistakes, scoring seven unearned runs in the first inning. Combining two errors, a walk and a hit batter, the Marauders posted four runs before Andrew Beyer recorded the first U-Mary hit. Alex Deyle soon doubled in two runs and Austin Grundstad singled up the middle to scored the final run of the inning.
 
A run-scoring single by Mason Schiff and a two-run triple by Alex Deyle led to the Marauders scoring three more unearned runs in the second inning and increasing their lead to 10-1 and effectively pocketing a win.
 
Deyle finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, triple, four RBI and a run scored. Dwight Mack also drove in four, with three scoring on a home run to right field. He scored twice and finished 1-for-2.
 
Scott Held and Beyer both went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Ingemansen scored twice.
 
Adam Brewers earned the victory after throwing three shutout innings, allowing two runs and a walk while striking out two.
 
U-Mary took advantage of more Winnipeg miscues in the second game. Down 3-1 entering the third, the Marauders regained the lead when the Wesman pitcher threw away a sacrifice bunt attempt to score two U-Mary runs. By the end of the inning U-Mary scored four times and led 5-3.
 
Another four runs crossed the plate in the fifth, including one on a Jason Shaul single to start the scoring. Single runs in the fifth and sixth increased the Marauders total to a game-ending 11-4 U-Mary win.
 
Shaul finished game two 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Held went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Deyle picked up another two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
 
Making his first collegiate start after 31 straight relief appearances, Brad Horan collected his first career win in his first start. He worked five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk. The Rapid City, S.D., native struck out four.
 
Brendan Gault led the Wesman attack with a 2-for-3 effort. The shortstop had a double, scored twice and drove in a run.
 
After taking a break for Easter weekend, the Marauders return to action on Monday, April 21, with a non-conference doubleheader starting at 5 PM central / 4 p.m. MT.
