Dominant Pitching Performances by Trattles, Vollrath leads U-Mary to Twin Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VERO BEACH, Fla. – Dominating starting pitching performances by Michael Vollrath and Shane Trattles pushed the University of Mary baseball team to a sweep at Dodgertown. The pair combined to allow no earned runs in 17 innings with Vollrath tossing a complete game shutout in an 11-0 win over The Apprentice School and Trattles struck out ten in a 9-2 Marauders victory against Ohio Valley University.

Shane Trattles tossed his best game of the season, striking out ten over eight innings. The senior pitcher threw seven straight shutout innings before giving up two unearned runs in the eighth. He gave up just six hits and one walk.
 
The Marauders (3-8 overall) exploded for eight runs in the third inning. A bases loaded walk to Jason Shaul scored the first run and Scott Held followed with a two run single. Overall, the Marauders used four hits, three walks, two hit batters and two OVU (0-4) errors to post the eight runs.
 
Alex Deyle led the Marauders offense with three hits. The senior shortstop also scored a run and posted an RBI. Scott Held was 1-for-3, scored a run and drove in three. Shaul hit his third triple in four games, went 1-for-3 overall, scored twice and drove in three. Austin was 2-for-4 with one run.
 
Olivares had three of OVU's seven hits.
 
Game 2: University of Mary 11 The Apprentice School 0
Taking control of the game from the first pitch, Michael Vollrath threw his first collegiate complete game shutout. The junior lefty from Winnipeg, MB, scattered seven hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out three.
 
U-Mary (4-8 overall) scored the only run it needed in the second inning. Mason Schiff led off with a single and moved to third on an errant pickoff throw.  He then scored on a groundout to second by Andrew Beyer.
 
The Marauders then posted crooked numbers in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
 
In a four run fourth inning, Shaul scored on a passed ball before a two-out bases loaded bunt single by Trenten Hove scored a second run. The Builders (11-4) then dropped a pop up in short left field to allow two more U-Mary runs to score.
 
A two-run Deyle triple in the fifth keyed a three-run outburst. He later added a run-scoring double in the ninth.
 
In the sixth, Dwight Mack crushed a two-run home run to right field. It was U-Mary's first round tripper of the season.
 
Deyle led U-Mary with a 2-for-4 effort, driving in three runs and scoring once. He had a double and a triple. Derek Somerville posted two hits in five at bats and scored twice. Beyer and Sam Ingemansen also scored twice apiece.
 
Overall eight Marauders scored in the game and eight had hits.
 
Brock Harris led The Apprentice School with two hits.
 
The Marauders conclude their spring break trip on Friday, March 6, with games against The Apprentice School and Rochester.
