Historic Offensive Outburst Leads Marauders to Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Jason Shaul drove in five runs and Austin Grundstad four as the University of Mary routed Post University 21-5. The 21 runs are a single game high for U-Mary in its NCAA era that began with the 2007 baseball season. Nine different Marauders recorded hits and 12 scored runs.
 
Game two was a complete reversal from the opener as U-Mary (2-8 overall) suffered an 11-0 loss to Nyack.
 
The games against both Post (1-5) and Nyack (1-4), members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Association, were played with wood bats.
 
GAME 1: U-Mary 21 Post University 5
A slow start turned into a record-setting day for the University of Mary offense. The Marauders set an NCAA-era record for runs scored, using 18 hits, 12 walks, five hit batters and two Post errors to cross the plate 21 times.
 
After a slow offensive start, the Marauders broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a 2-run triple by Shaul. Another four runs in the sixth – including an RBI singe by Shaul – increased the U-Mary advantage to 9-2.
 
An Alex Deyle run scoring double followed by a 2-run double from Austin Grundstad provided the Marauders a 12-4 advantage in the middle of seven.
 
A high-scoring game turned into a record performance with a 9-run ninth inning. Seven walks, two hits, a hit batter and an error led to the final outburst.
 
Shaul finished 2-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Grundstad went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and four RBI. Dwight Mack had three hits in four at bats, scored three times and drove in three.
 
Deyle posted four hits, scored three times and drove in a run. Sam Ingemansen had two hits in two official at bats, scored twice and drove in the first run of the game in the second inning.
 
Kevin Fearon was 3-for-3 with two RBI to pace Post.
 
Adam Brewers earned his first U-Mary win in his first start. Primarily a relief pitcher Brewers went 6.1 innings, striking out five, walking two, and allowing five earned runs and 10 hits. Zach Schuchard threw 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings, striking out two. Kaleb Stohr pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
 
GAME 2: Nyack 11 U-Mary 0
Cole Tobin pitched a one-hitter for Nyack while collecting two of his own. The hard-throwing junior righthander shut down a hot Marauders offense in an 11-0 win for the Warriors, striking out seven and walking two in a nine inning complete game.  
 
Nyack struck quickly with seven runs in the first inning, which proved to be more than enough runs. Center fielder John Kennedy tripled to lead off the game and scored on a Jan – Pierre Crespo single over short. Tobin shortly followed with a run-scoring double. After two runs scored on a error, Kennedy came through with a 2-run double. The final run scored on a wild pitch.
 
Tobin was 2-for-3 for Nyack with two runs scored and an RBI. Kennedy and Larry Vidaurre both had three hits.
 
Mack posted the Marauders lone hit.
