Box Score 2 BISMARCK, N.D. – University of Mary catcher
Sam Ingemansen shut down the Mayville State University running game by throwing out five attempted base stealers but the Marauders had no similar solution for the big bats of the Comets. In U-Mary's home opener, Mayville State hit four home runs and totaled ten extra base hits to capture both games of the non-conference twin bill, 7-3 and 12-3.
After Mayville State stole three bases in four attempts in the first two innings of the day, Ingemansen eliminated the next four runners who attempted to steal second base, including both attempts in the second game. The five throw-outs by the senior catcher nearly doubled the number of times the Comets had been caught stealing this season. Mayville State was successful 65 of 71 times entering today.
For the season Ingemansen has thrown out 11 of the 16 runners attempting to steal against him, an incredible 69 per cent.
In addition to his defensive work, Ingemansen also had two hits in the opener, including a triple, and drove in a run.
