Lapses Costly in U-Mary softball in 11-3 loss to Cal St. San B'dino

Box Score LAS VEGAS—The University of Mary softball team (1-4) was plagued by miscues as they fell to California State University, San Bernardino (5-2) to close out the 2014 Montana State University Billings Desert Stinger. U-Mary committed five errors and walked four batters as it fell 11-3 to CSUSB.

Kristin Ormsby led the offensive attack for the Marauders going 3-for-3 with a homerun.

Nicole Nobbe was 3-for-4 for the Coyotes, scored two runs and had one RBI.

With the Marauders taking first at bat, Alana Norman and Ormsby both had one out singles, but U-Mary was unable to capitalize as it stranded two.

In the bottom of the inning the Marauders gave up four hits and committed two errors. Allowing three first inning runs, the Marauders have given up one or more first inning runs in all five games this season.

In a 3-0 hole, Erin Keen got U-Mary on the board in the second with a double to left center that scored two runs to bring the Marauders within one.

In the home half the Coyotes drew a walk to start the inning and the next batter reached on an error. U-Mary had what looked like a double play ball, but miscommunication loaded the bases. The following batter singled to score two and put CSUSB up 5-2.

Cherlyn Trujillo, who started the game, was relieved by Keen after one inning. Just two of Trujillo's five runs were earned.

Ormsby gave U-Mary life in the third with a leadoff homerun to close the gap to two, but that would be the last time the Marauders scored.

The Coyotes added four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth as they went on to defeat the Marauders 11-3 in six innings.

Villalobos reached base all three times she went to the plate as she was 2-for-2 with a hit by pitch.

The Marauders will be back in action Feb. 23-24 as they participate in the Duluth Invitational in West St. Paul, Minn. U-Mary will play five games in two days, including a non-conference meeting with NSIC foe Minot State University.
