Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS—The University of Mary (1-3) stumbled on day two at the Montana State University Billings Desert Stinger. U-Mary opened the day with an 8-0 six-inning loss to Notre Dame de Namur University (3-2) and concluded with a 7-3 defeat at the hands of No. 1 University of Central Oklahoma (1-3).
GAME 1
U-Mary fell behind early, surrendering two runs in the first inning against Notre Dame de Namur and was never able to rebound as it fell 8-0.
Erin Keen and
Amber Gamboa were the only Marauders to record a hit in the game.
NDNU's Breanna Young was 3-for-3 with a double and two home runs. Young scored two runs and finished with four RBI.
The Marauders dug themselves a hole as a walk and two errors put them down by two in the first.
A single and a double for NDNU in the third inning gave the Argonauts a 3-0 lead. U-Mary threatened in the bottom of the inning when
Allison Brown walked with two outs and stole second and third. However, that was the only real threat the Marauders put together the entire game.
With two outs in the fourth inning the Argonauts hit two home runs to increase their lead to 6-0. NDNU added two more in the sixth with a two-run home run to go ahead 8-0. U-Mary was unable to answer in the bottom of the inning ending the game.
Keen got the nod on the mound for the Marauders pitching 3.2 innings and striking out four.
Cherlyn Trujillo came into relief and allowed no earned runs over 2.1 innings.
GAME 2
U-Mary battled with Central Oklahoma, but a five run fifth by the Bronchos was took much to overcome as the Marauders fell 7-3.
Brown was U-Mary's top performer against UCO going 2-for-3 with a walk, and an RBI.
Ally Dziadula was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI for the Bronchos.
After the Marauders went down 1-0 in the first inning, Keen tied the game in the second with an RBI single with the bases loaded to score Gamboa, but U-Mary had two base runners thrown out on the play prematurely ending their scoring threat.
UCO hit a two-out triple in the third and followed with a single to go ahead 2-1.
Both teams went down in order in the fourth inning, but the Bronchos rallied in the fifth. UCO led off the inning with a home run to centerfield and added four more runs due to two U-Mary errors.
Down 7-0 headed to the seventh, the Marauders finally were able to create some offense.
Francine Villalobos led off the inning with an infield single,
Demaree Rodriguez walked and
Cherlyn Trujillo singled up the middle to load the bases.
Keen got the scoring started with an RBI, but the Bronchos were able to turn two on the play. Brown followed with a single to score Rodriguez, and
Alana Norman followed with a single to left. With two runners on,
Kristin Ormsby drove the first pitch she saw to left field, but UCO secured the out to end the game.
Seven different players had a hit for the Marauders as they actually tied the Bronchos with eight hits.
Trujillo started for U-Mary and pitched five plus innings, while giving up four earned runs and striking out two. Keen came into pitch a scoreless sixth and struck out two.
U-Mary will conclude its Las Vegas trip tomorrow afternoon as it takes on California State University, San Bernadine at 4 p.m. CT.
