19th Ranked Dragons Scorch Marauders

MOORHEAD, Minn. – One night after jumping out to a big lead, the University of Mary was on the other side of the ledger in an 81-63 road loss to #19 MSU Moorhead.

On Friday, U-Mary (2-5 overall, 0-3 NSIC) raced out to a 16-4 lead but couldn't hold the advantage down the stretch in a tough loss at Northern State University. Tonight the nationally-ranked Dragons (10-0, 3-0) scored the first 15 points of the game and built a 40-16 advantage in the first half. One of the top three-point shooting teams in the league, MSUM drained eight of their first 11 attempts behind the arc and never trailed in the contest.

The Marauders refused to fade and pulled within 61-48 on a 3-pointer by Brandon Tyler in the second half. U-Mary had a chance to whittle the deficit to 10 points but a turnover foiled the Marauders oportunity and the Dragons reasserted themselves.

Damonta Henry led the Marauders with 18 points. The sophomore guard hit three treys and was 7-of-12 from the field. Marquealis Edwards was the other U-Mary player in double figures with 16 points. The junior guard led the team with seven rebounds and four assists. He also added two steals.

Germain Decoste chipped in nine points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Tyler, 2-for-2 behind the arc, scored eight points and had four rebounds.

Jordan Riewer nailed six treys in 11 attempts and led the Dragons with a game-high 24 points. He also had seven rebounds and three assists. Isaac Sevlie had 15 points, Prescott Williams 14 points and eight rebounds, and Tyler Vaughn scored 13 points.

The Marauders shot 39.7 percent from the field, making just 7-of-22 3-point attempts while going 6-of-11 at the free throw line. The Dragons shot 45 percent and finished 14-of-35 on 3-point attempts while converting 13-of-17 free throws.

U-Mary next returns home to host Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls on Dec. 12-13.
