FAYETTE, Iowa – Playing their first road game of the season, the University of Mary women's soccer team struck early but it was Upper Iowa University that would strike often throughout the second half. The Peacocks connected four times in the second half to defeat the Marauders 4-1.
Michelle McGeary found the net just 8:11 into the contest. The U-Mary sophomore blasted the ball into the upper right corner from 25 yards out off a feed from
Loren Sellers. It was McGeary's team-high fifth counter of the season.
Despite heavy pressure by the Peacocks (4-4 overall, 4-2 NSIC), the Marauders (2-4-3, 1-3-2) maintained the lead throughout the first half.
The second half belonged to the Peacocks. Brienne Fenton evened the game in the 51
st minute.
A span of 4:01 would decide the game. Maddie Edwards would score three straight goals in 241 seconds, connecting at 61:59, 65:37 and 66:00.
The Peacocks held an advantage of 29-7 in shots taken and 18-5 in shots on frame.
Kept busy in net,
Shelby Buttron posted 11 saves, the second straight game she has reached double figures.
Kelsey Ekstedt came off the bench and made three saves in the final 18:29.
The Marauders conclude their road trip at Winona State University on Sunday, Oct. 5.
