ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Two penalty kicks by
Zara O'Hagan - including a game-ending golden goal – provided all the offense needed by the University of Mary in a 2-1 overtime win at St. Cloud State University.
Following a foul called on the Huskies in the penalty box in overtime, O'Hagan abruptly ended the game midway through the first overtime when she converted her second penalty kick of the day. It was the sophomore midfielder's second goal of the day and the season.
O'Hagan opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 23
rd minute of the game. That counter looked like it would be enough for the Marauders (4-6-3 overall, 3-5-2 Northern Sun), until the Huskies (4-9, 3-7) finally pulled even at 85:27 on a goal by Taige Thoreson.
St. Cloud State dominated the stat sheet but U-Mary goalkeeper
Shelby Buttron managed to keep the Marauders in the game. The Huskies held a 25-10 edge in shots, an 8-3 advantage in shots on frame and triggered 11 corner kicks to two for the Marauders.
Buttron made seven saves for the Marauders in the game. Kenzie Hanzlik had one for the Huskies.
The Marauders conclude the weekend at the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.
