Box Score 2 Minot, ND – In a year of great strides that saw the University of Mary baseball team earn regional rankings and national pitcher of the week honors, the final day of the season won't rank among the highlights. The Marauders dropped both games of their doubleheader at Minot State University, 3-2 in the opener and 9-5 to close out the 2013 schedule.
The Marauders finish the season with a record of 17-21-1 overall and 8-15 in Northern Sun play. The 17 wins overall are the most for U-Mary since posting 18 in 2010. The nine conference wins are the most since winning 12 in 2010. U-Mary's winning percentage of .449 is the team's best during the NCAA era and the highest since registering a mark of .529 in 2006.
GAME ONE
Shut down most of the game, the Marauders offense showed signs of life in the seventh inning, scoring twice when Austin Grunstad doubled home
James Carroll and
Michael Stevenson with two outs. The tying run, Grunstad was stranded on second when
Alex Deyle grounded out for the final out in a 3-2 loss.
U-Mary was able to scratch out just five hits in the game against Beavers pitcher Cole Stober. In both the second and third innings the Marauders bounced into double plays to end both innings. The seventh was the only inning U-Mary managed to record two hits.
Stober walked three and struck out six while throwing the complete game for Minot State.
Minot State scored the opening run of the day in the second on an RBI single by Shayne Court, who recorded two of the Beavers nine hits. MSU padded its lead with two runs in the fifth on run scoring singles by Mike Turcotte and Connor Moughtin.

GAME TWO
A promising start didn't make for a happy ending. The Marauders built a 5-1 advantage but the Beavers rallied for the 9-5 win.
Using defensive miscues by the home team, the Marauders scored single runs in both the second and the third innings. A

Derek Somerville led off with a walk and

Alex Deyle bunt scored
Sam Ingemansen.
The rest of the game belonged to the Beavers. Highlighted by a two run Turcotte double, Minot State scored three runs in the fifth to pull within 5-4.
