Huskies Hurlers Handcuff Marauders Hitters

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bismarck, ND – Facing the nation's leading pitching staff, the University of Mary bats had no answer for St. Cloud State University's hurlers. The Marauders were unable to plate a run and managed just a combined eight hits in 4-0 and 10-0 losses to the Huskies.
 
The 9th ranked Huskies lead NCAA Division II with a team earned run average of 1.79. SCSU is 27-5 overall and leads the Northern Sun with a conference mark of 15-1. U-Mary is 15-17-1 and 6-11.
 
Kyal Williams was stellar on the hill for the Marauders in the opening game and kept U-Mary in the contest. The senior from Adelaide, South Australia, limited the Huskies to just six hits, one walk and three earned runs while striking out four.
 
Williams was one of six Marauders honored on Senior Day. Also recognized was Mo Burrough, James Carroll, Christopher Jolly, Jeff Skadeland and Michael Stevenson.
 
The Huskies broke on the board first, scoring an unearned run in the first inning.
 
The Marauders tried to respond in the bottom of the inning but stranded two runners in scoring position in what was proved to be U-Mary's best chance to score all day.
 
SCSU sealed the game with two runs in the third before tacking on another in the fifth.
 
Chris Kubitz picked up the win for SCSU, allowing five hits and a walk in five shutout innings. Ryan Diers pitched two hitless innings to finish the shutout.
 
U-Mary didn't record a baserunner until the second inning when Sam Ingemansen led off with a double. One of only three Marauders to reach scoring position in the game, Ingemansen was thrown out attempting to steal third.
 
Slowly the Huskies pulled away from the Marauders, scoring single runs in the first, third and fourth innings before exploding for five runs in the seventh. SCSU closed the game with two more runs in the eighth.
 
Shaky in the field at times, U-Mary committed three errors and allowed three unearned runs.
 
Logan Spitzack threw the first seven innings for SCSU, striking out six and allowing just three hits and two walks.
 
The Marauders, who slid to tenth in the NSIC standings, next host Northern State University on Wednesday, May 1.
