Box Score 2 Bismarck, ND –
Jason Shaul homered in both games for the University of Mary but the Marauders were unable to match the big innings posted by Wayne State College. The Wildcats rallied to win the opener 7-3 and claimed game two 8-6 in a contest halted in the sixth inning due to snow.
Shaul, who hit a solo shot in the opener and a two-run blast in the night cap, leads the Marauders with five home runs. All of his round trippers have been hit in the last eight games. The sophomore finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs batted in.
The Marauders jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first game of the opener behind solo home runs from Shaul and
Kyal Williams. It was the fourth home run of the season for Williams.
Wayne State scored three times in the third to take the lead. The big blow was a 2-run double by Brett Keim to push WSC in front 3-2. The Wildcats tacked on another four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by Brandon Lalk.
Alex Deyle posted two of U-Mary's four hits in the first game. He scored the Marauders final run in the seventh on a ground out by Mo Burrough.
Lalk was one of four Wildcats with two hits. He had three RBI and scored twice. Michael Fredricks earned the win, throwing all seven innings, allowing four hits, three walks and 10 sreikouets.
The Wildcats posted all the runs they needed in the second game in the first inning, scoring seven times to knock U-Mary starter
Jeff Skadeland after the senior recorded just one out. The big blow was a 2-run single by Michael Herman. WSC closed the inning with a double steal.
The Marauders worked quickly to cut into the deficit, scoring twice in the first inning on a two-run home run by Shaul.
A three-run outburst in the third inning closed the gap to 7-5. Burrough singled home two runs and an RBI single by Shaul brought U-Mary within two.
After WSC scored in the sixth, U-Mary responded with a run scoring single as
Sam Ingemansen shot a ball into right field to score
Michael Stevenson, pulling U-Mary within 8-6.
With the Marauders seemingly on the verge of a comeback with two runners on and no outs in the home half of the sixth, snowfall forced the teams to leave the field. The game was soon called with the Wildcats picking up an 8-6 win.
The Marauders fall to 13-10-1 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Wildcats improve to 18-8 and 10-2.
U-Mary is next scheduled to host Concordia University – St. Paul on April 13-14. Game time is 12 noon.
