Box Score Marshall, MN – A record-setting performance from
Josh Turner couldn't offset a flurry of second half turnovers in the University of Mary's 77-64 loss at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Turner scored a career-high 30 points but it was his effort behind the three-point line that was the story of the night. The senior guard virtually couldn't miss, knocking down 8-of-10 three point attempts. His 80 per cent accuracy rate behind the arc is a new school record, eclipsing the 75 per cent efforts posted by Geoff West (9-of-12 at Saint Martin's University on 11.19.2008) and Jordan Wilhelm (6-of-8 at MSU Billings 11.16.2010).
The eight treys is also a career-high for Turner and one off the school mark of nine by West. The 30 points eclipses the 28 the Aurora, CO, native scored at Minnesota Duluth earlier this season.
In an exciting first half that featured six lead changes, the Marauders trailed by ten before a Turner outburst keyed a 14-0 run by U-Mary. Turner hit a three-ball and then knocked down three straight free throws after he was fouled behind the arc. After a

Blake Maslonkowski, Turner nailed two more treys to push U-Mary in front 27-23. The Marauders entered intermission leading 36-32.
Both teams traded baskets and the lead early in the second. A Maslonkowski bucket gave the Marauders a 47-46 lead with just under 15 minutes left when the game turned 180 degrees on U-Mary.
The Marauders turned the ball over on seven of their next eight possessions and the Mustangs took advantage, going on a 10-0 run to grab a 56-47 lead at the 10:19 mark. Soon facing a double digit deficit, a
Marc Musungayi three point play pulled the Marauders within seven points. A 9-3 run by SMSU generated a 13 point advantage for the Mustangs and the Marauders could never get closer than nine points.
Turner, who also had five rebounds, was the only U-Mary player in double digits.
Jalen Jaspers scored nine points.
Mike Johnson added six with four assists and three steals.
Lavione West keyed the Mustangs attack with 19 points and three steals. Jordan Miller added 17 points and five assists, Jordan Buddenhagen had 14 and Tremel Barnes 11 with four assists. Nick Smith grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked five shots.
U-Mary made 12-of-24 shots behind the arc but struggled closer to the basket, making just 11 of 33 two-point field goal attempts.
The Marauders committed 20 turnovers, leading to a massive 30-5 scoring edge for the Mustangs in points off turnovers.
A road game on February 9 at the University of Sioux Falls is next on the docket for the Marauders, who are looing to break their 12 game losing streak.
