Box Score 2 Las Vegas, Nev. – With a successful day one, the University of Mary looked to continue their momentum into day two. U-Mary was able to do just that as they defeated Central Washington University 14-4 in the first game of the day and wrapped up day two with a 12-10 non-conference matchup with Northern Sun foe Minnesota Duluth. The Marauders had 25 hits in the two games combined including four homeruns.
Game 1
Against Central Washington U-Mary jumped out early and never trailed. Up 1-0 the Marauders put up a crooked number in the third on two hits, two errors and a walk to go up 4-0. CWU answered in the bottom of the inning, but U-Mary scored 10 runs in the final two innings as they cruised to a 14-4 win.
Brittney Hadley was sensational in the game for the Marauders going a perfect 4-4 with five runs batted in. Hadley had a grand slam and a double in the game.
Cherlyn Trujillo started her second game of the young season and picked up her second win. Trujillo scattered eight hits over five innings as the Mercy-Rule was put in place. The junior transfer struck out five and walked no one.
Kristin Ormsby hit her second homerun of the year in the game.
The Marauders outhit Central Washington 11-8. Defensively U-Mary had two errors to CWU's four. Seven Marauders reached base on balls and another was hit.
Game 2
The Marauders surrendered two first innings runs as they dug themselves a hole. U-Mary answered with a three-run homerun off the bat of
Demaree Rodriguez. The Marauders led 8-5 entering the fifth inning, but the Bulldogs put together a five run top of the fifth to retake the lead at 10-8. U-Mary answered with a run in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at 10 entering the sixth.
With two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the seventh, it looked as though
the game was headed to overtime. Senior
Jessica Alvarado, however, was able to prolong the game by drawing a walk. The next batter,
Allison Brown, hit a walk-off homerun to give U-Mary a 12-10 win.
Erin Keen got the start on the mound but was relieved by Trujillo. Keen pitched the first four innings, but got into trouble with one out in the fourth. Trujillo shut the door allowing just one hit in the final two and two-thirds as she picked up her third win of the year.
Despite scoring 12 runs, the Marauders only had five hits in the game. U-Mary was, however, able to draw ten walks. Four Marauders reached base off of Bulldog errors.
U-Mary (4-0) will wrap up their Las Vegas trip tomorrow afternoon as they take on St. Cloud State at 1:30 p.m.
