Explosive Second Half Leads Marauders Past Saints

Jaspers scores 18 to lead all players

Box Score Bismarck, ND – An explosive second half fueled by improved defensive play and offensive execution carried the University of Mary men's basketball team to a 75-61 home win over Presentation College in a non-conference contest. U-Mary senior Jalen Jaspers once again led all players with 18 points and 11 different Marauders scored in the contest.

Trailing by as many as nine points in the opening half, the Marauders took its initial lead in the second half at 39-37 on a three-point play by Marquealis Edwards. The junior guard ripped down a rebound and went coast-to-coast for the fast break basket before adding the free throw.

Jaspers would break a 43-43 tie on a put-back of an offensive rebound and freshman forward Bryan Jefferson followed with a dunk on the Marauders (2-0 overall) next possession to headline a 10-0 U-Mary lead. The Saints (5-2) pulled within five but the Marauders never relinquished their lead.

The Marauders eventually outscored the Saints 46-27 in the second half, shooting 58.6 per cent from the floor to 35.7 per cent for Presentation.

Jaspers, who also hit for a team-high 18 points in the Marauders season-opening win over South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, was 7-for-9 from the field. He led all players with seven rebounds.

Edwards chipped in 12 points and posted a game-high five assists. He had two steals.

Alex Anderson scored nine points off the bench for U-Mary, knocking down 3-of-4 3-point attempts. Jefferson added eight points in a reserve role. U-Mary's bench contributed 30 points in the win.

Anthony Hendricks led the Saints with 17 points and Quincy Davis added nine.

The Marauders held an edge in shooting percentage (50.9 per cent to 39.2 per cent) and committed just 15 turnovers to 20 for the Saints.

U-Mary now embarks on a three-game road trip to Alaska, where the Marauders will first face host University of Alaska Fairbanks on November 21.
