SATURDAY: After opening the 2012 season with an exciting win on the road, the University of Mary makes its 2012 home debut when Augustana College comes to town. The Marauders host the Vikings for the second straight year. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 8, at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
THE RECORDS: Both U-Mary and Augustana are 1-0 overall and in the Northern Sun after each team captured wins on opening weekend.
LAST GAME: The Marauders held on for an exciting 32-26 win at Concordia University - St. Paul behind Northern Sun Player of the week performances from Scott Maldonao ... The Vikings rolled past Northern State 35-14 in Sioux Falls, SD.
LAST YEAR: U-Mary finished 5-6 overall, 4-6 in the Northern Sun and 3-3 in the NSIC North... Augustana finished 2011 6-5 overall, 6-4 in the NSIC and 4-2 in the NSIC South.

TICKETS: Game tickets for Marauders home games are available at the door. Adult tickets are $8 while seniors, college students and youth 18 years old and younger are $4. U-Mary students with their M-card and children 5 and under are free.
THE MARAUDERS-VIKINGS SERIES/LAST MEETING: A relatively new rivalry, the Marauders posted a 10-0 win over the Vikings last season for U-Mary's first win in three tries... The Vikings won the first meeting 26-19 in Bismarck, ND, on August 25, 2007 in the season opener in front of over 6,500 fans. U-Mary held a 19-7 lead halfway through the fourth quarter before Augie scored 19 straight points to claim the victory. Shawn Melland opened the scoring with a 65 yard interception return and Blair Sandy ran one yard for a score and U-Mary led 13-0 at intermission. Two Rett Thibodeaux field goals built the Marauders lead to 19-7 in the fourth. The Vikings rallied and took their first lead with 45 seconds left as J. Norquist scored from the one yard line. Augie sealed the win when Dustin Rice returned an interception 70 yards for the score as time expired. Jamal Lomax ran for 107 yards and Jesse Laber had two sacks to lead the Marauders. Justin Huber ran for 105 yards and two TDs for Augie... In 2010, the Vikings won 52-21 in Sioux Falls, SD. Terry Newsome caught a TD pass as U-Mary scored first but Augie ran off 28 straight points. U-Mary pulled within 28-21 on scoring runs by Craig Bagnell and Bo Cole but Tyler Schulte caught his third of four touchdowns for the Vikings to enter intermission up 35-21. AC would tack on 17 more in the second half. Augie's Josh Hanson threw for five TDs and ran for one... Using their best defensive effort of the 2011 season, the Marauders earned their first win over Augustana in a 10-0 victory. U-Mary gave up just 253 yards, including 58 yards on the ground. The Marauders picked up all the points they needed in the game in the second quarter when Bagnell connected with Tyler Steffan on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Tyler Ryan sealed the win with a 24-yard field goal in the 4th quarter. Bagnell paced the offense with 283 passing yards. Defensively, John Oyloe posted 4.0 tackles for loss and DeShon Benton had 2.5.

QUICK LOOK AT THE AUGUSTANA VIKINGS: A strong force joining the Northern Sun in 2008, Augustana is 34-15 in conference games. With 15 seniors on the team, the Vikings will look to make another push for the NCAA playoffs, last making the tournament on 2010. Josh Hanson triggers an explosive Vikings attack. A three year starter at QB, the senior opened the season by accounting for all five Augie touchdowns in a 34-14 opening win over Northern State. Hanson threw for four scores - including a 64-yard touchdown to Grant Gebhardt - and ran one in from 18 yards. He threw for 203 yards against the Wolves, completing 13-of-24 passes, and will start for the 25th time in his Augie career this Saturday against the Marauders. Gebhardt was the main target in the passing attack, catching four passes for 104 yards and two scores. Augie's leading rusher a year ago with 887 yards, Dajon Newell ran for 106 yards to open the season. Defensively Augie boasts five seniors in its front seven. Linebacker Austin Luecke is the squad's top returning tackler and made 10 tackles for loss last season. MLB Ross Peterson was an All-NSIC South honorable mention selection last year.
LAST WEEK: Despite a slow start, the Marauders offense exploded for 21 straight points in a span of 2:21 and the defense forced five turnovers as U-Mary opened the 2012 season with a 32-26 win at Concordia University - St. Paul. Trailing 14-3, Craig Bagnell connected with Nick Jolliffe on a 5-yard TD pass eight seconds before intermission. U-Mary received the second half kickoff and drove the field in 1:08, capped by an Elby Pope 34-yard TD catch that saw him bounce off a defender before racing into the end zone. On the next play Mike Wagner intercepted a Golden Bears pass at the CU 28. Bagnell immediately connected with Bryan Sandy for a touchdown and the Marauders led 24-14. After seeing their lead cut to five points, Bagnell connected with Tyler Steffan for a 66 yard gain. Hit from behind, Steffan would fumble into the end zone, where Myron Baldoz-McArn would recover the ball for the touchdown and a 32-19 lead. After scoring late in the game, Concordia attempted a Hail Mary on the last play of the game by defensive back Scott Maldonado knocked the ball down to preserve the U-Mary win.
4: The Marauders forced four interceptions in the win at Concordia University, one short of the team record. Scott Maldonado, Stephon Jones, Andrew Richter and Mike Wagner all had interceptions. The school record is five, done four times previously.
19: In his Marauders debut, Scott Maldonado made 19 tackles against Concordia University, including nine solo stops. That total led the country. He also had an interception and knocked down a Hail Mary pass attempt at the end of the game to preserve the win.
MALDONADO, RYAN NSIC POTW: U-Mary football players Scott Maldonado and Tyler Ryan earned Northern Sun Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week honors after leading the Marauders to a 32-26 opening day win at Concordia University - St. Paul. This is the first time either player has received this award and is the first time two U-Mary players have been honored in the same week... A junior safety from Valley Springs, Calif., Maldonado had a spectacular debut for U-Mary. The transfer from San Joaquin Delta posted a Northern Sun-high 19 tackles in the Marauders win over the Golden Bears. Maldonado had an interception on the first drive of the game and knocked down a Hail Mary attempt on the last play of the day to preserve the win. Nine of his 19 stops were solo tackles and he shared a tackle for loss... On special teams, Ryan tilted the field to the Marauders advantage all day with his kicking, placing each of his six punts inside the opponent's 20 yard line. He also made a 24 yard field goal in his only attempt and converted all three extra point attempts. In his first punt of the day, the junior blasted the ball 70 yards to the Golden Bears 12 yard line. The Mesa, Ariz., native then placed punts at the CU 1, 15, 13, 9 and 18. The last punt that pinned the Golden Bears at the 18 came with 12 seconds left in the game and the Marauders preserving a 32-26 lead. Ryan averaged 44.5 yards per punt on six attempts and he didn't give up any punt return yardage. Additionally he averaged 62 yards on seven kickoff attempts. He also had two solo tackles.
USA TODAY TOUTS RYAN: Tyler Ryan was mentioned in the USA Today's “Weekend Rewind by the Numbers” on September 2 after his spectacular game at Concordia University. Here's what was written: “6: Punts by Tyler Ryan of Division II University of Mary (N.D.) that were downed inside the 20 in a 32-26 win against Concordia-St. Paul. Ryan averaged 44.5 yards on his six punts and also had a 24-yard field goal to open the scoring.”
D2FOOTBALL.COM SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: U-Mary K/P Tyler Ryan became the first U-Mary football player to earn D2football.com Player of the Week honors for his special teams effort at Concordia University. All six of his punts were downed inside the 20 yard line. Ryan averaged 44.5 yards per punt.
HOME WHITES: The Marauders will wear their white jerseys at home on Saturday against Augustana. U-Mary gave its 2011 senior class their game jerseys after last season and the replacement jerseys have not yet arrived.
SHARE THE WEALTH: Seven different U-Mary receivers caught passes on Saturday, five had four or more catches and four scored touchdowns as Craig Bagnell completed 24 passes for 359 yards and four touchdowns. Bryan Sandy and Nick Jolliffe had five catches and a touchdown, Tyler Steffan had four catches for 101 yards, and Myron Baldoz-McArn and Elby Pope both had four catches and a touchdown each.
PRESSURE POINT: Soph. LB Grant Singer pressured the Golden Bears a game-high four times and set a career-high in tackles with ten.
