Davis, Keen Spin Shutouts as Marauders Sweep Golden Eagles

Crookston, MN – Rachel Davis and Erin Keen spun back-to-back shutouts and Kristin Ormsby had five hits and four RBIs as the University of Mary softball team swept a doubleheader at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. The Marauders opened with a 10-0 win and finished the day with a 4-0 victory.
 
Davis limited the Golden Eagles (9-24 overall, 3-13 NSIC) to four hits and didn't allow a walk while striking out five in a six inning complete game to open the day. The U-Mary (18-11, 9-5) defense turned one double play and UMC left four runners on base.   
 
After scoring 30 runs on Thursday to sweep a doubleheader at MSU Moorhead, the Marauders offense remained red hot. U-Mary pounded out 10 hits and reached double figures in runs for the third straight game.
 
The Marauders opened the scoring with some small ball. Jessica Alvarado singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and stole home for the first run of the game. U-Mary scored a second time on a run-scoring double by Kristin Ormsby.
 
Ormsby hit another RBI double in the fourth, starting a four run outburst to jump the U-Mary lead to 6-0. Melissa Gonzalez highlighted a four run sixth inning with a two-run double.
 
A freshman from San Ramon, CA, Ormsby led U-Mary with three hits, including two doubles. She scored once and drove in two. Brown had two hits, scored twice and had an RBI. Brooke Hageness also had two hits, scored once and drove in one. Tricia Clarke and Alvarado scored two times each and Gonzalez drove in two.
 
Keen dominated the night cap, allowing just two hits in her seven inning complete game shutout. A freshman from Boise, ID, Keen struck out six and walked just one. This was her third complete game and first shutout.
 
Ormsby continued her torrid offensive pace from the first game and was involved in all four Marauders runs. Playing third base, the freshman had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. She singled and scored on a base hit by Alexandra Medina for the game's first run in the second inning, Ormsby doubled home Gonzalez and then scored on a double by Sami Antolin in the fourth as U-Mary extended its lead to 3-0. She then drove in Gonzalez in the sixth for the game's final run.
 
Gonzalez scored twice and had two hits. Brown also had two hits for U-Mary.
 
After eight games on the road, the Marauders begin an eight-game home stand when U-Mary hosts the University of Minnesota Duluth on April 11.
