Box Score 1 GAME 1 BOX SCORE  /  GAME 2 BOX SCORE

Bismarck, ND – Kyal Williams and Kyle Lozensky combined to throw a shutout for the University of Mary and the Marauders split their conference doubleheader with Northern State University. U-Mary won the opener 2-0 before Northern State rebounded for a 10-5 win.

Locked in a pitching duel, Williams and Northern State's Nathan Nietfeld kept the first game scoreless through five innings. After Williams struck out two Wolves (9-14 overall, 4-6 NSIC) in the top of the sixth, the Marauders (3-21, 2-8) would finally break through in the home half of the inning.

Alex Deyle led off with a single to center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. An infield single by Duane Kiyota Jr. placed runners on the corners. Attempting a third-to-first pickoff attempt, Nietfeld was called for a balk, allowing Deyle to score the first run of the game. With Kiyota now on second and two outs after a fly ball was caught in center, cleanup hitter James Carroll doubled deep to center field to score Kiyota with an insurance run.

Looking to close out the game, Williams walked the first Wolves batter of the seventh inning and was replaced by Lozensky. The junior righty struck out the first two hitters he faced and induced a ground ball to end the opening game.

Williams struck out seven hitters and allowed five hits and one walk in six innings to pick up his first win at U-Mary. Lozensky pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts to earn his first save.

Deyle and Kiyota both had two hits for the Marauders.

Nietfeld gave up six hits and two earned runs, didn't walk and hitters and struck out four.

Held scoreless in the opener, the Wolves exploded for 10 runs and 14 hits in game two. Northern State ran off to a quick lead, scoring three runs in the second and two in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Down three, the Marauders scored once in the third when Tyler Steffan singled home Austin Grunfeld.

U-Mary would eventually trail 10-1 before scoring four runs in the ninth inning.

Marice Burrough led the Marauders with three hits in five at bats. He scored once and drove in a run. Steffan and Deyle both added two hits as U-Mary totaled 10 as a team.

Zach Miller led the Wolves with three hits and five RBI.

The Marauders continue their 10 game home stand when they host 16th-ranked Minnesota State University in a four-game Northern Sun series on April 6-7, staring at 12 noon both days.
