Lozensky Shuts Down Warriors Attack as Marauders Gain Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Winona, MN – Kyle Lozensky turned in a dominating pitching performance and Sam Ingemansen drove home the winning run for the University of Mary as the Marauders split a doubleheader at Winona State University. The Marauders opened the day with a 4-2 win before the Warriors rebounded for a 13-6 victory to close the two game set.

After allowing two runs in the first inning, Lozensky held the Warriors scoreless the last six innings while pitching a complete game. Winona State could scratch out just three hits and five base runners in the final six frames after recording three hits and a walk in the opening innings.

The junior righthander picked up his first win of the season after limiting the Warriors to five hits and three walks in seven innings. Lozensky struck out five. Only once in the final six innings did he allow more than one base runner. Just one time did Winona State have a runner in scoring position.

Down by two, the Marauders cut the deficit in half in the third when Austin Grunstad walked, moved to second on a single by Tyler Steffan, and scored on consecutive wild pitches.

A two-run single by Ingemansen in the fourth inning pushed the Marauders in front. Following a hit by Steve Pletan and a walk to Alex Deyle, Ingemansen delivered a two-run single to center.

Pletan delivered an insurance run in the fifth as he singled home James Carroll.
Ingemansen recorded two of the Marauders seven hits in the contest and knocked home two.

The Marauders opened the scoring in the second game. Tyler Steffan led off the game with a walk and eventually scored on an error by the Warriors.

The lead didn't last long as Winona State scored once in the first. The Warriors followed up with four runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run home run from Nate Van Roekle.

U-Mary closed within 5-2 on a single by Cory Herback to score Deyle.

The run by the Marauders seemed to reignite the Warriors, who posted four runs in the home half of the sixth and another four runs in the eighth.

Herback, Pletan and Grunstad each recorded two hits out of nine for U-Mary. Michael Stevenson scored twice and Salveson again drove in two runs.

Van Roeckle led the Warriors 16 hit attack by going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI.

The Marauders and Warriors return to the field on Sunday, April 22, to conclude the four-game Northern Sun series.
