Marauders Can't Contain Vikings Bats

Minneapolis – Two innings tripped up the University of Mary baseball team in a 10-2 non-conference loss to Augustana at the Metrodome. Behind a strong showing by Kyle Lozensky, the Marauders kept the Vikings in check until Augie scored a combined nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
 
Tyler Steffan, Duane Kiyota and Marice Burrough all had two hits in the game for the Marauders. Kiyota also reached base on a walk and was hit by a pitch and Burrough scored one of U-Mary's two runs.
 
Overall the Marauders generated eight hits to 11 for Augie but would leave nine men on base to only five for the Vikings.
 
Two Marauders errors in the bottom of the first allowed the Vikings to break on top with an unearned run. U-Mary would take its only lead of the day in the third. Alex Deyle was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Burrough followed with a single. Kiyota also would be struck by a pitch to load the bases. Cory Herback hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Deyle and an Austin Grunstad single followed to drive in Burrough for a 2-1 Marauders lead.
 
Lozensky was in a groove for the Marauders, at one point retiring 10 straight batters. The game would begin going south for U-Mary in the sixth inning. After a double and a single to lead off the inning, Brian Voight hit a two-run triple and scored on an error by Lozensky as Augie grabbed a 4-2 lead. McKeon Meyhoff would come in for relief and struck out the first batter he faced before giving up a home run to Jake Kurth.
 
The Vikings sealed the Marauders fate with five runs in the seventh inning.
 
Lozensky ended the day allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk in five innings. He also struck out three hitters. Brad Horan pitched a perfect eighth inning for U-Mary.
 
Tyson Gau held the Marauders in check the first five innings for Augustana. He struck out four hitters, allowed five hits and hit two batters in five innings. Grant Larson picked up the win with 2.1 shutout innings of relief.
 
U-Mary falls to 1-12 with the loss. Augie is 4-3. The two Northern Sun foes will play another nine-inning non-conference game at the Metrodome on March 18 at 7 AM.
