Clermont, FL – Dominating pitching performances propelled the University of Mary softball team to two wins on day four of the Marauders spring trip to Florida. U-Mary opened the morning with a 2-1 win over Gannon and followed with a 4-2 victory over Wilmington University.
Emily Sinclair struck out nine Gannon hitters and allowed just five hits and two walks in the 2-1 win.
Two key hits in the bottom of the sixth inning would win the games for the Marauders. After a double by Sami Antolin, freshman
Brittney Hadley broke a 1-1 tie with a single to score Antolin.
U-Mary claimed the second game 4-2 over Wilmington as freshman
Erin Keen threw a one-hitter. The Boise, ID, native struck out nine and allowed two earned runs. She walked six in the complete game win. During one stretch Keen retired 15 of 16 hitters she faced.
Hadley hit a home run in the second to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead but Wilmington responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
Back to back doubles in the third inning would key a three-run rally for U-Mary. With two outs and a runner on base,
Jessica Alvarado singled through the left side. Antolin then followed with a two-run double to give U-Mary the lead.
Desi Smith then doubled Antolin home for the final run of the day.
The Marauders, 7-6 on the year, finish their spring trip on Friday, March 2, when U-Mary faces West Virginia Wesleyan and Saint Anselm.
