Button Blast Gains Marauders a Split on the Day

Sinclair Shuts Down Wildcats

U-Mary v. Wilmington BOX SCORE

Clermont, FL – Jenna Button cracked a two-run game-winning home run to lift the University of Mary softball team to a 2-1 win over Wilmington University and gain the Marauders a split on the day. U-Mary opened with an 11-3 loss to Gannon University.
 
Scoreless through the first two innings with Wilmington, U-Mary would break through in the third inning. With two outs and one runner on, Jenna Button smashed a two-run shot down the left field line to score Brooke Hageness. It would be the only runs of the game for the Marauders, managed to record just one more hit the rest of the game.
 
Emily Sinclair held the Wildcats in check all day except the fifth inning. Using two hits and a walk, Wilmington would push across its lone run of the day. Sinclair retiree the last seven hitters she faced in the game.
 
The senior hurler allowed just one run on five hits and two walks while spinning a complete game. Sinclair struck out five and stranded six base runners.
 
The Marauders managed just four hits in the game and struck out seven times.
 
U-Mary jumped out to a 2-1 lead against Gannon but the Golden Knights would strike for nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Marauders would tack on another run in the fifth before the Golden Knights would add a solo spot of their own in the seventh.
 
Game stats are not yet available for the Marauders-Golden Knights game.
 
The Marauders, 5-6 overall, will take Wednesday, February 29, off before returning to the diamond against Gannon and Wilmington once again on March 1.
