Late Basket by Yellowjackets Stings Marauders

Box Score Bismarck, ND - For the second time this week the University of Mary men's basketball witnessed an opposing team hit a big basket late in the game to propel the visitor to a win. Tonight, Montana State University Billings scored the game-winning basket with 60 seconds remaining in the game in a 79-75 Yellowjackets victory over the Marauders in a non-conference clash.

In a game that featured 12 lead changes and seven ties in the second half alone, U-Mary grabbed a 72-71 lead when Darius Robinson nailed a three-pointer with 2:05 remaining in the game. Antoine Procter then took over the game for the Yellowjackets. After making 1-of-2 free throws to even the game, Proctor hit a layup with one minute left for the final lead change of the night, pushing MSUB ahead 74-72.

On the Marauders next possession, Josh Turner was fouled and made 1-of-2 free throws. Proctor pushed the Yellowjackets lead to 76-73 on a jumper with 17 seconds left. After the Marauders turned the ball over on their next possession, Proctor would seal the MSU Billing win with two free throws with seven ticks remaining in the game.

Robinson led the Marauders with a career-high 25 points for U-Mary. The junior guard hit half his 18 shots and drilled three treys. Robinson also made all four free throw attempts and tied for the team lead in rebounding with seven.

U-Mary had four players score in double digits. Turner had 14 points, making 5-of-6 shots from the floor. Jalen Jaspers had 13 points and six rebounds. Damon Smith recorded 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds while blocking two shots.

Proctor led all players with 26 points. Jaxon Myaer added 16 for MSUB and Preston Richards had 11 points off the bench.

The Marauders (1-3 overall) had won the last two meetings with the Yellowjackets (4-2 overall) and three of four.

On Tuesday, U-Mary saw its late lead disappear when Minot State hit a three pointer with four seconds left in the game to force overtime. The Marauders would eventually lose after two extra sessions.

U-Mary now begins Northern Sun competition when the Marauders play at St. Cloud State on December 2.
