Marauders Succumb to Beavers in Double Overtime

Box Score Bismarck, ND - In a battle between two longtime foes who haven't met for over 5 years, it took two overtimes before visiting Minot State University was able to knock off the University of Mary 92-88. Darius Robinson led the Marauders with a game-high 23 points and Alex Dorr posted a double double on a night that saw seven players foul out.

Trailing much of the night, the Marauders (1-2 overall) took a 67-66 lead with 1:27 left in regulation on a layup by Dorr. Four free throws by Lamada Williams and U-Mary led 71-68 before MSU's Chris East knocked down a three-pointer with four seconds left to force the first overtime.

In the initial overtime, the Beavers (1-4 overall) would build a six point advantage before the Marauders retaliated. Twice in the last minute Damon Williams would hit layups to pull the Marauders even, the second with five seconds on the clock to force another session.

Smith would open the second overtime with two free throw but the Beavers rolled off eight straight points, making 6-of-7 free throw attempts. The Marauders could get nothing going in the second bonus session, missing all six shots from the field and turning the ball over four times.

Robinson hit three treys and made two steals on his way to 23 points.

Dorr had 13 points and tied for game-high honors with 13 rebounds. He also had three blocks and two steals. Smith added 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Josh Turner was the fourth Marauders player in double figures, scoring 14 points.

Josh Jonson and Jonas Pollard both struck for 22 to lead the Beavers. Johnson also pulled down 13 boards and made all ten free throws. Pollard was nearly perfect from the field, making 10-of-11 shots. Adam Randall scored 18 off the bench and Yonas Behre, 7-of-7 at the line, scored 16.

The win was the fifth straight by the Beavers over the Marauders. The two teams hadn't met since February 17, 2006.

U-Mary next hosts Montana State University Billings on Saturday, November 26. Tipoff is 7 PM.
