This week’s NDPF Female Athlete of the Week is Moriku Hakim. Hakim carried an impressive string of games into the January 6-7 weekend, helping the UMary Women’s Basketball team sweep a pair of NSIC South division opponents. Hakim was among the statistical leaders in the Marauders 89-74 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University. In the Marauders highest scoring game of the season, Hakim finished with 14 points and six rebounds. UMary had a quick turnaround Saturday afternoon against the University of Sioux Falls, a game where the Marauders fought to put away the Cougars late 71-59. While the Cougars hit many big jump shots to keep the game close, Hakim played a dominating presence in the post. Finishing just shy of a double-double, Hakim scored 12 points and had career-highs in rebounds (9) and blocks (3) against the Cougars. Other highlights in the game were Megan Zander scoring a career-high 25 points, and Megan Voit moving into second-place for all-time three-pointers (187) in UMary Women’s Basketball program history. Hakim, a sophomore forward from Fargo, ND, averages 9.2 points per game shooting 53.7% from the field, and leads the Marauders in rebounds per game (5.5), blocks per game (0.8), and steals per game (1.2).
