Named to the 2012-13 Northern Sun All-Academic Team... The Marauders floor general started all 27 games as U-Mary finished the season 4-23... Johnson was eighth in the NSIC in assists with 3.6 per game, a career-high. He also established career-highs with 4.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game... The points guard shot 40.6% from the floor (39-of-96), including a 38.9% effort behind the arc (28-of-72)... At the free throw line Johnson connected on 78.9% of his attempts (15-of-19)... Cracked double digits in points three times, scoring 10 against Mayville State, Minot State and Minnesota Duluth... Set a career-high in assists with nine in a win over Mayville State on 11/14/2013... Was 7-of-8 at the free throw line against the Comets.
2011-12
Named the Unsung Athlete of the Year by the U-Mary Athletic Deparment after a solid sophomore season... Started 14 times for the Marauders and appeared in 21 games as U-Mary finished the season 8-18... Averaged 3.9 points, 1.9 asssists and 1.7 rebounds per game... Shot 50 per cent from the field (26-of-52), 46.5 per cent on three-pointers (20-of-43) and was 9-of-11 (81.8%) at the free throw line... Started 14 of the last 15 games he played during the season... Committed just 21 turnovers while posting 39 assists on the year... In a 72-51 upset over #19 MSU Moorhead on 1/7/12, Johnson was 3-for-5 from the floor and 2-of-4 on treys, scored a tyhen-career-high eight points and had two assists... After missing time due to injury, Johnson returned to reach double figures in three straight games and leading U-Mary to back-to-back wins to finish the season... In a 79-72 upset over NSIC-leading St. Cloud State on 2/18/12, Johnson was perfect from the floor, making all four three-point attemps and both free throws to score a career-high 14 points. He also had three assists... He had 12 points and three assists in a 70-67 win over Northern State to close out the season on 2/25/12.
2010-11
In his first season at U-Mary, Mike Johnson was a reserve for a Marauders team that finished the season 23-6 overall and became the first team to advance to the NCAA regional tournament... The Marauders finished second in the Northern Sun with a mark of 18-4... Johnson appeared in 14 games and played 50 minutes while playing behind All-American Anthony Moody... Johnson recorded four rebounds, seven assists and one steal in his limited minutes.
PRIOR TO U-MARY
Michael Johnson played a key role in Grand Rapids High School winning two straight section titles and advancing to consecutive Minnesota state basketball tournaments. As a junior in 2009-10, Johnson averaged 11 points and seven assists per game as his team compiled a record of 24-5. In his sophomore year he earned all-state honorable mention recognition and was named to the all-area all-star team in 2008-09.
A member of his school’s B honor roll, Michael is the son of Betsy Johnson and James Johnson.
