Marauders defeated by Hornets, Yellow Jackets

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary volleyball team (2-5) dropped matches to Emporia State University (5-1) and Black Hills State University (3-4) in three sets on day two of the AU/USF Volleyball Classic at the Stewart Center.

MATCH 1 UMary - 0 ESU - 3
UMary posted 38 kills on a .181 hitting percentage, while ESU recorded 44 kills on a .303 attack percentage. The Marauders had 33 assists and three aces, and the Hornets had 39 assists and eight aces.

With the score tied at 9-9 in the first set, the Hornets went on an 8-2 run to take a 17-11 lead. UMary tried to battle back, but ESU won the set 25-18.

The Marauders jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second set but could not hold on as the Hornets took it down 25-21. UMary held a 9-8 lead in the third set, but ESU went on a 17-6 run to claim a 25-15 victory.

The match finished with the Marauders recording four blocks and 37 digs. The Hornets posted seven blocks and 39 digs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Judith Burke posted eight kills on a .263 attack percentage, along with four digs and two blocks.

Dani Highum had eight kills on a .250 hitting percentage.

Natalie Boehmer recorded 29 assists and eight digs.

Gabrielle Reynolds had seven kills and four digs.

Holli Klettheimer put up six kills.

Karina Hixon had seven digs and two aces.

Norah Thome added seven digs.

MATCH 2 UMary - 0 BHSU – 3
UMary had 40 kills on a .245 hitting percentage, while BHSU posted 48 kills on a .452 attack percentage. The Marauders recorded 33 assists and two aces, while the Yellow Jackets had 47 assists and four aces.

The first set was competitive, but BHSU edged out UMary 25-20. The second set was tied at 15-15, when the Yellow Jackets went on a 4-0 run to take a 19-15 lead. UMary attempted to come back but fell short, falling 25-21. BHSU jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third set and kept the momentum to win 25-17.  

The match finished with the Marauders posting five blocks and 30 digs. The Yellow Jackets posted four blocks and 35 digs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Holli Klettheimer led the team in kills with 10 on an outstanding .643 hitting percentage.

Gabrielle Reynolds had nine kills on an impressive .400 attack percentage.

Natalie Boehmer dished out 28 assists.

Judith Burke had a team-high eight digs and added seven kills.

Dani Highum put up seven digs and six kills.

Karina Hixon added five digs.

Sophia Heringer put up eight assists in her first collegiate match.
