SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary volleyball team (2-3) fell 3-0 to Augustana University (5-0) in their opening match of the AU/USF Volleyball Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.
UMary recorded 28 kills on a .094 attack percentage, while AU posted 50 kills on a .364 hitting percentage. The Marauders had 27 assists and one ace, and the Vikings had 44 assists and five aces.
The first set was dominated by the Vikings as AU won 25-13. UMary got off to a better start in the second set, trailing AU 12-10. The Vikings went on to win 13 of the next 17 points to earn a 25-16 set victory.
The Marauders fell behind 20-10 in the third set but claimed six of the next seven points to cut the Vikings lead to 21-17. AU followed the UMary run by winning the next four points to take down the final set 25-17.
The match finished with the Marauders posting two blocks and 42 digs. The Vikings recorded five blocks and 41 digs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Holli Klettheimer recorded eight kills on a .333 hitting percentage.
Dani Highum had a team-high ten digs to go along with eight kills.
Natalie Boehmer posted 25 assists and seven digs.
Judith Burke put up eight kills and four digs.
Norah Thome had six digs in two sets played.
Karina Hixon added six digs.
UP NEXT
The Marauders return for day two of the AU/USF Volleyball Classic on Friday, September 4, as they first take on Emporia State University at 10 am. UMary then competes against Black Hills State University at 4 pm. Both matches will be played at the Stewart Center.
