The University of Mary Marauders

BILLINGS, MT - Freshmen Cate Jesena and Lily Schatz both scored their first collegiate goals for the University of Mary women's soccer team as the Marauders opened the Rimrock Classic with a 4-2 loss to Black Hills State University in a neutral site game.
 
Less than two minutes after the Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the 10^th minute of play, Jesena drove home a loose ball at 11:05 to even the score. Harley Peltz hammered a shot from inside the goal box that was turned aside by BHSU goalkeeper Rian Barthel. Crashing the net, Jesena beat everyone to the ball and knocked home the rebound into an open net.
 
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead as they scored from outside the penalty area in the 44^th minute and off a corner kick in the 51^st minute. It was the second BHSU goal off a corner in the game.
 
Schatz sliced the UMary deficit to 3-2 in the 71^st minute. Taking a feed from Dina Polanco, Schatz stepped into the pass for a one-time strike from 40 yards out. Taking a bounce in front of the goal, Barthel seemed to slip on the turf as the ball took a high hop into the net.
 
Scrambling for the equalizer, the Marauders pressed hard and fired off seven straight shots and attempted a corner kick. Barthel held UMary at bay, making three saves before the Yellow Jackets score the clinching goal in the 87^th minute.
 
The Marauders (0-1-1) doubled the Yellow Jackets (2-0-1) shot total 30-15 and held a 9-7 advantage in shots on net. UMary also had an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
 
UMary next faces Rimrock Classic host MSU Billings on Saturday, September 5. The non-conference match starts at 4 pm CT/3 pm MT.
